Science Fair Steps
1. Decide you
want to
participate

night!!!
2. Pick a topic
5. Design
your display
board
3. Register
online

Assemble your
project
How do I get started?
All
information can be found on the NES
PTO web site in the science fair section
 Ask
your parents to review the Science Fair section on the
NESPTO website
 Register
your project at:
http://nessciencefair.wufoo.com/forms/m7x3q1/
Link is also on NESPTO.com
 Determine
your topic – lots of web sites
How do I get started?
Keep a notebook so all of your findings stay
together
Take photos or collect anything that could sit
on the table in front of the display board
Create a display board
Attend the science fair and teach your friends,
family, and teachers what you learned!
What Is a science fair project?
•
•
•
•
•
A collection (rocks, shells, insects)
A demonstration or model (how a potato
battery works, solar system)
Information Project (explain what a
rainbow cloud is and when it exists)
Experiment (what type of filling makes the
softest pillow? Is your hair knotty or nice?)
Create something (robot, a better football
tee for kids)
How can I find out about
information on the topic I pick?
•
Library
•
Internet
•
Someone
knowledgeable
about your
topic
What is a display board?
A tri-fold display that you will
design to show off all of your
findings and information
about your project
Who can I work with?
•
Individual – create
your own project
•
Family – work on
your project with
siblings and
parents (parents
should not be
doing most of the
work)
•
Group – get
together with 1 or 2
friends to create
your project and
design your display
board (determine
ways that the work
is divided equally)
Steps in a science experiment
Ask Question
Do Background Research
Construct Hypothesis
(What do YOU think is the
answer?)
Test with an Experiment
Analyze Results,
Draw Conclusion
Hypothesis is True
Hypothesis is False
or Partially True
Report Results
Think!
Try Again

Should I participate?
Reasons YOU will like the science fair
•

There is now a reason to mix
all those things in the kitchen
together

can finally be organized
Parents like to brag about the
great things you do.
