Summary • Peter and Kit could not figure out what the sonnet meant. They took it to Sir Joseph Williams, who was from the same place as Peter.

• Sir Joseph took the sonnet to Sir Robert Cecil, the head of the Queen’s Secret Service. Sir Robert gave the sonnet to his cousin, Sir Francis. Sir Francis figured out the code of the sonnet; SEND NEWS BY PEEL.

• It took them awhile to figure out what the word ”peel” meant. Peter finally realized that the peel meant the peel towers in Cumberland. • Sir Robert decided Peter should go to Cumberland and investigate.

4. When Peter took the sonnet to Sir Robert Cecil, he sighed and said, “Another plot?” It tells us he said these words “wearily”. What does that tell us about his job?
