안녕하십니까? 영도어학원 정자캠퍼스입니다. 2월은 여전히 새해의 기운이 솟는
달이면서도, 3월의 시작을 위한 정리의 달이기도 합니다. 각 학년의 마지막 과정
을 마치고 새 학년 준비로 바쁠 우리 YES영도학생들을 생각하면 가슴이 설레이
기 그지없습니다. 며칠 전 교육부에서 발표한 “국가영어능력평가시험” 은 더 이상
시험을 위한 영어가 아닌, 실력을 위한 영어교육을 하겠다는 정부의 의지라고 볼
수 있습니다. 지난 20년 동안, 시류에 편승하지 않고 참교육을 위해 한 길을 걸어
온 영도의 교육방식이 이제와 다시금 바른 길이었음을 확인해주는 정책발표입니
다. YES영도어학원은 앞으로도, ‘한국 속의 미국학교’라는 자부심으로, 대한민국
영어교육을 선도하는 학원으로서 최선을 다하겠습니다.

How does weather effect the way people live all
over the world? Give at least 3 examples.
What three things are you looking forward to during

Who were the ancient Americans? You can find
information for your essay in the text book or
on the Internet.
[Topic] How does weather effect the way people live all over the world? Give
at least 3 examples of how weather impacts the lives of various people. For
example, people who live in very cold environments are forced to adapt to
the climate. They wear special clothing, have special tires on their cars, and
may even have other modes of transportation than most people. In this case,
weather greatly alters their everyday lives.
The weather is very closely related to people's lives. And it is effect the way people
live too. How does weather effect the way people live all over the world? When its
raining we have to hold umbrellas, when there is too much heat it can cause health
trouble and when typhoons striked many crops are destroyed. These are some ways
that weather effects our life.
First, when its raining we have to hold umbrellas to protect us from getting wet and
get cold. Or if the rain was acid rain, probably we'll get skin disease or our hair will
be come out. So, if we don't want to be like this we have to hold umbrellas.
Teacher : It’s good that you introduced multiple reasons for the purpose of an
umbrella. While it is common knowledge that we use umbrellas to keep us dry, be
don’t often think about wind/cold and acid rain. Another use for umbrellas is to
shade us from the sun. Why don’t you include that as well to further explain you point.
Second, if it is too hot it can cause health trouble such as sunstroke or heat stroke.
In the summer time, I saw a senior who was dead because it was too hot He sheds
so much sweat so he didn't have enough energy and he died. I think sunshine is
scary too.
Third, if a typhoon strikes farmlands, and it can destroys farmer's crops. Farmer
invest their time and money to growing crops but if a typhoon destroys it, I think they
feel upset.
Teacher: What are the other impacts of destroyed crops? For example, if too many
corps are destroyed, some people may starve. Crop damage can also cause higher
food prices due to lack of availability. How might this effect local communities where
farmers live?
Weather effects many of the ways in which people live. If its raining we have to hold
umbrellas, if it's too hot it can causes health problems, and typhoons can destroy
crops. I wrote about the bad effects of weather, but weather can also effect peoples
lives in good ways.

Very nice essay Kelly. I liked how you used a lot of different examples,
and how you restated those examples in the introduction and conclusion. I
also like that you used a real life example about the old man. If you spend
a little more time checking your grammar, you can easily get an improved
score. Good job!

[안병만 교육부장관 – 대학 총장 간담회에서 언급]
국가영어능력평가는 현재 한국교육과정평가원이 문항 개발 작업을 진행하
고 있으며, 2009년에 약 2만 명의 학생을 대상으로 예비 시험을 치러서 이미
평가 방법 및 문제 유형이 세부적으로 확정된 국가공인 영어시험입니다. “한
국형 토플/토익”이라고 불리며, 1급은 성인용 (대학생 및 직장인), 2, 3급은
고등학생용으로 나뉘어져 있습니다.
기존의 영어능력 평가가 듣기와 독해에 치우쳐 있어서 실질적인 의사소통
능력을 평가하기에 부족했다면 국가영어능력평가는 “듣기, 독해, 말하기, 쓰
기”를 종합적으로 IBT(Internet-Based Test)방식으로 평가합니다.
짧은 시간 내에 수능시험보다 훨씬 길고 난이도가 높은 지문을 읽고 (또는
듣고) 본인의 생각을 말과 글로 표현하는, 학생들의 사고력을 측정하는 시험
입니다.
특히 1, 2점의 점수가 중요한 기준이 아니라 대학 입시 전형에서는 일종의
“영어자격시험”으로 활용될 예정이기 때문에 일정 점수 이상을 받아서 해당
급수를 미리 따게 되면 더 이상 시험을 보지 않아도 되는 방식으로 추진되고
있습니다.
이제 고등학교 3학년 때까지 영어에 매달려서 공부하기보다 중학교 3학년
때까지 영어 수준을 올려 놓고, 고1~2 때 해당 급수를 따게 되면, 다른 과목
에 더 많은 신경을 쓸 수 있게 되어 학생들의 부담감을 줄일 수 있습니다.
