Running BioSlax on Windows
using VMPlayer
You can now use VMPlayer to run BioSlax while running MS Windows. This is particularly
useful for those who have problem booting BioSlax using LiveCD or directly from the hard drive,
due to hardware compatibility issues.
Download VMPlayer and the BioSlax version customized to run on VMPlayer from
http://lifesciinformatics.blogspot.com/, under the section “Free Linux OS For Bioinformaticians”.
After downloading the two files, follow the instructions below:
• Install the downloaded VMPlayer
• Unzip BS5VM to your C drive (e.g. C:\BS5VM )
• Run VMPlayer and open C:\BS5VM\Other Linux 2.6.x kernel.vmx
If internet connection is not working, please change network setting (on the top menu) from
“Bridged” to “NAT” and in the "Konsole" type "dhcpcd" and then press the "Enter" button"
These steps should run BioSLAX in the VMPlayer environment. However, note that even
though vmtools are enabled in the vm image, there are 2 minor issues that remain to be solved:
• Cut and paste from host machine to guest machine and vice versa do not work
• No sound
