Common IMS (1)
• Material from several IMS/MMD-related documents has
been included in the Rel. 8 Common IMS initiative in
3GPP. As a result, the following TIA standards will be
capped, with any further enhancements to be
undertaken in the corresponding 3GPP documents.

Interoperability and Inter-working
• Two projects are in progress in 3GPP2 to
support IP level convergence
– HRPD/E-UTRAN Interoperability, and
– HRPD/WiMAX Interoperability
• Both projects will be ready for publication by
EOY08

Strategic Direction
• TSB-183, Common IMS Impacts to 3GPP2
Specifications, is being developed to provide
both
– a mapping of the 3GPP2/TIA documents to the 3GPP
Common IMS counterparts, and
– information regarding differences in IMS network
elements and interfaces between 3GPP2/TIA and 3GPP
specifications for inter-working purposes
• Close collaboration between 3GPP2 and both
3GPP and WiMAX Forum is in place to support
convergence

Challenges
• Ensure ongoing compatibility between TIA
standards and Common IMS specifications
• Ensure TIA requirements are met in the
Common IMS specifications
• TSB-183 will be updated appropriately as new
CDMA-based material is incorporated into
Common IMS

Next Steps/Actions
• Prepare additional documents in 3GPP2 for potential
inclusion in Common IMS in Rel. 9
– TIA has recently been requested to publish TIA-1127, MMD
Enhanced Policy, and 3GPP was notified that this is intended to be
included in Rel. 9
– 3GPP2 has work items for IMS Centralized Services (ICS) and SIPbased Femto which are potential candidates for inclusion in Common
IMS in Rel. 9
– As future IMS-based functionality is developed in TIA/3GPP2,
applicability for Common IMS will be a key consideration
• Continue close collaborative work with 3GPP
