History
• 42 founders from a variety of federal
agencies created AFGE in 1932.
• AFGE believes that all unions should belong to
the house of labor and has been nationally
affiliated with the AFL-CIO since AFGE was
founded in 1932

AFGE bargains for working conditions and
terms of employment under Title VII of the
Civil Service Reform Act. The pay and
benefits of federal workers are established
by Congress thought the legislative
process. AFGE lobbies and testifies
extensively on issues important to
government workers.
