MDE Responsibility

Michigan Department of Education
(MDE) is responsible for monitoring all
ELL/Immigrant program performance to
ensure compliance under the No Child
Left Behind Act (NCLB).

Process Update





Designed and implemented Evaluation/Monitoring
process
Conducted training on process via a series of webinars
Disseminated Self Evaluation Tool to individual LEA’s
and consortiums for completion by March 13, 2009
Designed and developed Evaluation/Monitoring Risk
Factor Tool to determine type of review
Created standard final report format for documenting
individual district reviews

Progress To Date

230 Self Assessment Tools (SATs) have been
submitted to MDE, Office of School
Improvement (OSI) .
 All SATs received have been analyzed based
on risk factor criteria and categorized into
desk/telephone or on-site reviews.
 To date 20 desk/telephone reviews have been
conducted and final reports compiled.
