They often use

mythical creature. It is a
symbol of good fortune to
Chinese people.
The Olympics is a series
of sports played in a
competition. In this
competition countries
compete to win medals.
First gold, second silver,
and third bronze.
Countries send their best
athletes to compete.
Sports such as – rowing,
basketball, gymnastics,
swimming and cycling.
The closing ceremony
must take place in the
stadium after the end of all
the events. The flag
bearers of the
participating countries and
the name-board-bearers
enter the stadium in single
file. Behind them march
the athletes who
competed. The closing
ceremony also has lots of
fireworks and music.
Someone will also sing the
national anthem of the
country the Olympics was
held in. The Olympic torch
will be blown out for

China. The events were held in the birds nest
stadium, the water cube, and around Beijing. But
the equestrian was held in Hong Kong. The
water cube was where the swimming and diving
was held. The Bird’s nest stadium, was where
the track and field events are held. Around the
Beijing roads, marathons, triathlons, and cycling
are held.
The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from the midMing Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty.
For almost five centuries, it served as the home of the Emperor
and his household, as well as the ceremonial and political centre
of Chinese government.

Gymnastics is a sport involving performance
of exercises requiring physical strength,
agility and
co-ordination. There are too different types of
gymnastics – rhythmic, and artistic. In
rhythmic gymnastics you usually use hoops,
ribbons and balls. You perform to some music
using this equipment.
With artistic gymnastics you use the beam,
bars, trampoline, volt and pummel horse. You
can also use the floor and perform to the
music. Some of the gymnastics is on ice.
Pole vaulting is a track and field
event in which a person uses a
long, flexible pole as a tool to
help an athlete jump over a high
set bar. which today is usually
made either of fibreglass or
carbon fibre. Athletes originally
used bamboo sticks as their pole
vault but then decided to use
carbon fibre or fibreglass. Pole
vaulting is a little bit like high
jump, except you use a pole to
vault your self over a higher bar.
Weightlifting is a sport in witch people put
heavy weights on a metal bar. The
weightlifter tries to lift it. Athletes start at
a low weight, and as they achieve lifting
small weights, they gradually add on
heavier ones. The winner is the athlete
that can lift the heaviest weights without
dropping them. You also must hold the
weight above your head for three seconds
in order to pass that round. Weight lifting
can be a very dangerous sport. If you drop
the weight on your body, you could easily
dislocate, break or fracture the body part
that you dropped the weight on.
Bevan Docherty is a New Zealand athlete that
has been to three Olympics so far. At the 2008
Beijing Olympics, he competed in a triathlon.
A triathlon is running, swimming and cycling.
In the sprint at the end he took bronze for New
Zealand, and came third. So far, Bevan has
won three medals. Bevan Docherty was born
on March 27, 1977. He weighs 71 kilos and is
ranked 4th in the world in his sport. He
attended a Taupo college.
Nick Willis is a great kiwi athlete.
He was born in Lower Hutt, New
Zealand. He is famous for
running. He won gold in the 2006,
Melbourne, Olympics, and won
bronze in the 2008, Beijing
Olympics. He won both of these
medals by running the 1,500
meter track. His personal best
broke the New Zealand record for
running the 1,500 meters. This
time was 3 minutes, 32 seconds
and 17 mille seconds.
Usain Bolt is a Jamaican
Olympic Athlete aged 22. He is
world wide famous because he
is the fastest man on earth. So
far he has won 5 gold medals,
3 at the Beijing Olympics, 1 at
the Kingston Junior world
Championships and 1 at the
Sherbrooke World Youth
Championships. He has also
won 4 silver medals. He was
born in Trelawney, Jamaica
and was born on the 22
August, 1986.
