European Technology Platforms
– what are they?
„… we see technology platforms as a smart, European way
of working together to support industrial competitiveness
(…) I have been struck by their enthusiasm and professionalism
and their readiness to grasp this opportunity
to become powerful actors in making the European Research Area
a reality (…) The Commision services will continue to do
all they can to facilitate this important and welcome
development.”
Janez Potocnik
European Commissioner for Science and Research
European Technology Platforms
– how do they work?
Stakeholders,
led by industry,
come together
to agree a
common
vision for the
technology.
Stakeholders
define a
Strategic
Research
Agenda setting
out the
necessary
objectives for
the technology.
Stakeholders
implement
the SRA
with the
mobilisation
of human and
financial
resources.
• The European Council for Construction Research,
Development and Innovation (ECCREDI) brings
together a number of key actors in the Construction
Sector in 1995
• ECCREDI identified Technology Platforms as a
powerful vehicle for promoting research in the
construction sector
• ECCREDI with the guidance of the European
Commission undertook the early work in defining
the parameters for a Technology Platform for the
construction sector (October 2003 onwards)
• ECTP is an initiative to mobilise the construction
sector, to be changed through Research,
Development and Innovation, in order to satisfy the
needs of society
• ECTP will take the sector to a “new and better” high
level, by identifying and analysing the major
challenges in terms of society, sustainability,
technology, competitiveness, etc.
• An industrial driven platform with the industrial
commitment and the contribution of all the
stakeholders, in order to reach the 3% GDP on
research (1/3 public; 2/3 industry)
July 12th 2004
Formal Launching of ECTP
with the Nomination of the
President of ENCORD
(a member association of ECCREDI)
