“The Game of the Century II”
Summer 2008
The Game of the Century
1947
Jackie Robinson joins
the Brooklyn
Dodgers and
becomes the first
black player in Major
League Baseball
during the modern
era; Robinson wins
the National League
Rookie of The Year
Award.
The Game of the Century is a full 9-inning baseball game played
by former African American and Latino Major League Baseball
players and Hall of Famers who honor the Old Negro League
players some of whom will be present at the celebration.
The Black Baseball Players Association and The Remembering
When Foundation will host the Game of the Century II during the
summer of 2008 and celebrate the 6oth Anniversary of Jackie
Robinson breaking the color barrier for baseball.
Black Baseball Players Association
Mission Statement
1878
Pitcher Bud
Fowler becomes
the first black
player to cross the
minor league color
barrier.
The mission of the Black Baseball Players Association is to celebrate the
past, inspire the present and empower the future by honoring the
achievements that African Americans have made to the American history
of baseball. By promoting self-awareness and self-worth, we teach
adults and children how to aim for success in their lives and the
communities in which they live.
Primary Goal
Our goal is to charge the atmosphere at the BBPA events with a spirit of
love, respect and unity so that all in attendance will enjoy the fellowship
of each other with great excitement, enthusiasm and appreciation of the
game of baseball.
Remembering When Foundation
Mission Statement
1860’s
Abraham Lincoln
abolishes slavery
throughout the
nation. Amateur
black baseball
clubs spring up
around New
England and the
Mid West.
The mission of the Remembering When Foundation is to honor the past
for the achievements of today while connecting generations through
academics and athletics.
Primary Goal
Students from elementary to high school ages receive athletic training,
African American history lessons and appropriate academic
encouragement from former and current professional athletes when they
attend clinics, extended camps and other events sponsored through the
Foundation at no cost. The Remembering When Foundation, a 501(c)(3)
non-profit corporation, is committed to serving all humankind especially
underrepresented backgrounds, cultures and low-income communities.
The Model
Strengths of Community Partners
1924
The first official
Colored World Series
is held in Philadelphia.
Negro League players
can not eat at whiteonly restaurants, use
white-only restrooms,
or drink from whiteonly water fountains.
Remembering When Foundation is an innovative 501(c)(3) non-profit
entity dedicated to designing special programs and events centered
around the game of baseball to bring awareness to the community by
highlighting the African American heroes of baseball. This is a unique
way to address social consciousness and to perpetuate change in such a
way that helps communities to rejoice in who we are and have pride in
the accomplishments of those that helped shape our nation’s pastime,
thereby bringing together our nation as a whole. This task calls upon the
strengths of community partners to affect change where other models
have failed.
