PACIFISM, FREEDOM, EUROPE.
1897-1916: THE INTERNATIONAL
MOVEMENT FOR PEACE AND ARBITRATION
GOES ALSO THROUGH TORRE PELLICE
The pacifist path between ‘800 and ‘900 in a Europe in which the ideas
of radical liberalism are confronted with the colonialist and imperialist
forces: the pacifists spoke about federalism, United States of Europe,
arbitration and international law as peace engines instead of the arms
race. Torre Pellice and Pinerolo area played a role in this international
movement and the Waldensian church took side, although in the end
retreated taking interventionist positions.
