City is a brilliant amalgam of stories, including a comic book, a boxing match, lectures by myriad
professors on things like curves in nature or Monet's Waterlillies or intellectual dishonesty, and
of course the main story, which is about a boy-genius, his two imaginary friends (a giant and a
bald mute), his absent military father and his institutionalized mother, and his kooky fantastic
governess who is writing a Western. Yes yes, a Western, which in itself is maybe one of the
most beautiful, clever stories I have ever read.
