Randy Evans: This is the third book I've read by Mr. Mosby and they all have been five star
reads. Mr Mosby is able to clearly define all the characters in a story so well that you can't help
but feel the story as you read it. His writing in that way reminds me of Rick Mofina so if you are
a fan of Rick Mofina or other books by Steve Mosby you will want to read this.
Julie Carson: Wow. What a good book this is. Dark, and twisted, with awful thoughts of
someone living in your attic and you knowing nothing about it, and them doing terrible things to
you. The hopelessness his victims must feel washes right through you.
It was fast paced, and I liked how the chapters were written in a timeline from different view
points. The characterisation was superb, right through the book, and it was easy to imagine it
happening and unfolding around you.
The only slight difficulty I had was the ending. I got a little confused towards the end with all the
characters and exactly who was who and who did what - it just felt a little bit rushed right at the
end, and I really needed Jodie to state explicitly what had happened, as I think I know, but I'm
not sure! This stopped the book from getting 5 stars, though I wish I could give it 4.5.
Having read this book, I am intending to read more by him.

Mede door de vele lofbetuigingen van enkele medelezers lagen de verwachtingen hoog. Ja, ik
wéét het - je mag je eigenlijk nooit laten leiden door een andere mening, want het gebeurt
helaas maar al te vaak dat een boek de verwachtingen niet kan inlossen. Helaas was het dit
keer niet anders.
Het verhaal begon nog oké: een beetje stereotiep wel, de oudere, beetje nukkige rechercheur
met een verleden en zijn jongere en onervaren sidekick - alleen werken ze in dit boek
voornamelijk op afstand samen. Waar het begin nog enige vage spanning kon oproepen en me
ietwat nieuwsgierig maakte, werd het naarmate het boek vorderde steeds moeilijker om niet
diagonaal te gaan lezen. Ik vond het allemaal een beetje oppervlakkig en onsamenhangend,
vaak niet genoeg gedetailleerd (zowel bij de karakterontwikkeling als de beschrijving van de
gebeurtenissen op zich) en de focus lag te zeer op de zoektocht (die bijna geen enkele
vordering maakt en 3/4 van het boek in beslag neemt) en veel minder op de misdaden. In de
laatste 20-30 pagina's wordt dan snel even de oplossing en de pointe geperst. Dat kàn werken maar alleen als je naam Agatha Christie is, ik vond dit maar een povere poging.
Gemiddeld genomen doe ik 2 à 3 dagen over een boek van deze gemiddelde omvang, nu
duurde het meer dan een week en ik ben blij dat ik er van af ben en éindelijk een hopelijk beter
boek van de stapel ga mogen nemen.
Smaken verschillen en dat mag! Maar dit boek kon mij helaas niet bekoren, ik vond het best
saai.
