Anne-Marie van den Bosch: Gerbrand Bakker kan mij wederom bekoren. Door zijn schrijfstijl die
verstild, ingetogen, veelzeggend is weet hij binnen een heel klein gebeuren ontzettend veel
over te brengen.
Ook in dit boek staat de tijd weer even stil op twee verschillende dagen (elk maar 1 dag): een
dag dat je met de Koningin meereist (heeeerluk wat een twist) en een gebeurtenis, en een dag
bij een stug eigenheimer boerengezin (met schattige Dieke) en een bijna uitgestorven dorp
(behalve de fantasievolle "begraafplaatsbewaakster") waar alles weer terugkomt.
In kleine - piepkleine - stukjes wordt op een trage lome zomerdag alles vertelt van toen, leef je
mee met nu.
Ik kan het voelen zoals ik op die zondagmiddagen van vroeger aan de tafel met het wollen
dikke kleed zat, te wachten op niets, de klok hoorde tikken, na de kippensoep en het voorlezen
uit de Bijbel, terwijl Opa en Oma hun dutje deden. Ook zij vertelden nooit ergens over maar toch
voelde je de gebeurtenissen waar niet meer over gesproken werd in de lucht.

puzzle things out. However in the end there didn't seem to be much point, despite the very
competent writing.

reviews too. Go in fresh if you can. Bakker teases the reader by letting key information out very
patiently and methodically, therefore you have to wonder what the publishers/reviewers were
thinking by giving so much away. This novel came out in English translation six years after its
release in Holland and after the huge success of his later work; in particular, The Twin. It is not
quite as strong as The Twin or The Detour, but if you're a fan of Bakker's work, you should find
much to enjoy in this story.

geen typisch spannende gebeurtenissen, het boek draait vooral om de dood van Hanna en dan
bovenal over de verwerking hiervan. Ondanks dit zijn er toch veel open plekken in het boek en
blijf je wel lezen. Het boek is deels autobiografisch, dit vind ik heel knap van Bakker. Het lijkt mij
ontzettend moeilijk om zo’n dramatische gebeurtenis uit je leven te beschrijven, al kan dit wel
goed zijn voor het verwerkingsproces. had. Mijn eerste indruk van het boek is nog hetzelfde,
alleen door het dieper nadenken over het boek heeft het boek voor mij wel meer inhoud
gekregen. Het boek heeft echt een ontzettend mooi, dramatisch verhaal waarmee je je
ontzettend goed kan identificeren.Van dit boek heb ik geleerd dat iedereen op een andere
manier omgaat met het overlijden van iemand. Vooral Anna heeft het er erg moeilijk mee en
iedere keer als er gesproken wordt over Hanna of haar overlijden, trekt zij zich terug op het stro.
Dit houdt Zeeger in een dagboek bij, zelf heeft hij niet zo de behoefte om te verstoppen.
Iedereen verwerkt het op zijn of haar eigen manier en dat is iets waar mensen rekening mee
zouden moeten houden, dat heb ik wel geleerd van dit boek.Van dit boek heb ik meer geleerd
over mezelf als lezer van literatuur, ik leer eigenlijk bij ieder boek meer over mezelf als lezer van
literatuur. Hoewel ik afwisseling tussen verhaallijnen leuk vind bij boeken, vond ik bij dit boek
toch het aantal verhaallijnen internet iets te groot. Er used to be te veel diversiteit tussen de
personages en dit werkte soms behoorlijk verwarrend.
