1 Dear delegates, My name is Fabiana Ermete and I am honored to be the Secretary General of IMUN Bari 2016. It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the first edition of this model : we can’t wait to start this new experience in the city of Bari! It’s my fourth year as member of United Network staff: last year I was the Secretary General of IMUN Torino and three years ago I was the Director of Legal Committee for IMUN Rome. I’m at the last year of University, at Tor Vergata, in Rome, where I’m studying Economics and Management. I discovered the world of Model United Nations projects when I was an high school student, and, since that day, United Network has always represented a very important part of my academic and personal life. IMUN has become a popular and important project for Italian students and United Network is organizing this conference in several cities, giving to everyone the opportunity to live a Model United Nations experience. Why is this “MUN” so important for us? Being part of a Model United Nations conference makes young girls and guys aware of the most important global issues, it leads them to discover new cultures and thinkings and to understand the importance of diplomacy and dialogue. During IMUN days, your life is going to become something different: you are going to be someone else and you may represent a country really different from yours. You will find yourself in a Committee of the United Nations, which has a big mission: make the world a better place for everyone. You are not asked to listen or to pay attention to a lecture: you are the protagonist of this experience, expressing the opinion of your country and trying to find a solution for your committee’s topic. You will find a way to realize your mission, respecting different cultures and countries situations, thanks to cooperation and dialogue. You play an active role in this conference, you are called upon to defend and mantain peace between countries, solving problems and conflicts. As delegates of Legal Committee, you will face a complex and important topic, which has been discussed for many years, in several situations: the right of Asylum in International Law. It’s a delicate issue, you have to take into account different law systems and cultures, deep debates and negotiations are required to obtain a proper resolution. You can find specfic and important information about the topic on your background guide; please, feel free to contact me for any question! I’m sure you will do your best for this conference! The countdown has started, we can’t wait to see your proposals and ideas. I look forward to meeting you all in Bari!
