Dear Delegates, Faculty Advisors and Friends of IMUN,
It is such a pleasure and honour to invite and welcome all of you to the 6th annual Italian Model
United Nations (IMUN) conference, a unique international experience with over 3000 delegates from
high schools.
IMUN offers every year the opportunity for students to engage in exciting discussion with other highperforming high school students about the issues gripping today's global community. You will be
challenged to conduct research about your committee's topics and your assigned country, formulate
opinions, and engage your peers with high-level debate. How could there be anything better than
something so wonderful? And what could be more gratifying than this?
A spirit of friendship and cooperation across borders and a deeper understanding of cultures and
perspectives beyond one’s own - encompasses our purpose for helding this conference every year, and
the reason it continues to be the largest Italian Model United Nations. Therefore, I can only be
honored to return to a third year on United Network staff as Secretary-General of IMUN 2017.
IMUN 2017 wil be the first big step of my third year as a member of UN staff, but I have been
involved in Models UN since high school, where I took part in the program for the last three years and
then moved on to working with United Network for its conferences as a substantive staffer and as a
Director of Events.
Currently, I am attending the final year of the bachelor degree in Economics and Management at
LUISS University, in Rome, but I still remember the first time I sat within the committee with all my
schoolmates dressed up, afraid to make a speech in english, in front of all the other delegates.
It has been a long time, but still today my knees start knocking at the very thought of approaching the
podium and getting ready for my speech.
It is worth saying that after that first public speech, in WHO committee, representing Guatemala, I
grew to love MUNs and the practical use of my political knowledge. In fact, I cannot do without them!
Certainly, everything changes once you are not a delegate anymore and you really get how much work it
takes to get ready for the days of the conference, but every single one of us put heart and soul in it, to
make it work, in order to give YOU delegates the best experience of your life!
Delegates: Get ready for IMUN 2017! Remember that when you do your best and live out your
dreams, you inspire others to do the same!
I cannot wait to see all of you, waiting for IMUN 2017!
Love,
Maria Cristina D’Addesa

Dear Delegates,
My name is Irene Dettori, and I am your Director General for IMUN Roma 2017. I have been
collaborating with United Network for three years now, as a member of the staff, but my journey with
MUNs started back in 2011, which was when my whole life was changed by this experience. I do not
want to bore you with a list of all the experiences I had concerning MUNs, I want to try to explain
what they meant to me, and what I hope IMUN will mean for all of you.
When I first entered a committee, back in 2011, I was so nervous I couldn’t breath, I remember I was
shaking while I was raising my placard and my legs felt so unsure while I was walking to the podium, to
give my first speech ever. I remember all these emotions, but what I remember the most was the
feelings I felt right after that speech: I was so flattered, so proud of myself. It got easier and easier to
get used to that environment as the work of the committee went on, I was one-hundred-percent
involved in the experience and I realized it was something that I wanted as a part of my life.
Thanks to Model United Nations (MUNs) I learnt the value of compromise and cooperation, the
importance of looking convinced while giving speeches, no matter what I am saying, and the ability to
involve the others in my initiatives.
These are the things I hope you will bring with you for your whole life after IMUN, because this is the
essence of the experience. It is not only about studying new cultures and important topics, but it is
above all about listening other people’s opinions and managing to gather them together to find a
solution, and I swear you are going to use that in many different aspects of your life.
I can not even explain my proudness and joy in seeing so many of you taking part into this project, and
I am totally confident you will see the massive work that is behind such a great event. Our whole staff
has been preparing for months to give you the best MUN possible, and I am sure all of you will do his
part to make it flawless.
When you will first enter the committee, no matter how many MUNs you have taken part into, you will
feel anxious, don’t let this emotion gain the upper hand on you, let yourself enjoy one of the most
exciting and original experiences of your whole life.
I cannot wait to meet you all!
Love,
Irene Dettori
