    BELFAST WITH A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE     SCANLON - born and bred in North Belfast Attended Belfast Royal Academy Worked for General Electric Company, Siemens and Nortel (English, German and Canadian) Just completed a 5 year Professorship in the Netherlands  Conduct globally leading research @ ECIT (“wearables”) Completed an international lecture tour for NATO Examined PhDs in Singapore, Australia, Sweden and more Evaluated EU wide funding proposals and also Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Australia, US, Canada… Worked for global medical device companies, electronics multinationals, mobile phone multinationals

INTERNATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

600+ international study or work placement Our Target: 20% 22 nd in UK for Erasmus placements (out of 169) of UG students £75k International Opportunities Fund

Because

students who study abroad more likely to be either in employment or further study six months after qualifying, with higher than average salaries

PLACEMENT IN EEECS    Industrial Advisory Panel – several international companies Dedicated Careers & Placement Adviser and Placement Assistant Currently work with 1200+ employers  57% (691) – NI  29% (359) – National  14% (167) – International    Almost 300 students undertaking placement in EEECS (2014/15) Almost 20% of them outside of NI Recent examples include:  Yamaha Motors Amsterdam  Unity, Germany  IAESTE (Barcelona, Sri Lanka, China)

GLOBAL EXAMPLE: InStep  Global software consulting company - 160,000 employees / US $8bn  InStep is Infosys' flagship global internship programme  3-month placement in India  Queen’s is only one of 9 universities in the UK (100 worldwide)  Queen’s has 6 placements this year (most others 2)
