Dichiarazione del Presidente della
CECC sulla decisione della Corte
suprema del Canada e l’aiuto
medicale a morire
I miei confratelli vescovi ed io esortiamo
i governi e le corti di giustizia ad
interpretare la decisione di oggi nel
senso più stretto del termine, a resistere
alle pressioni di andare oltre e di
continuare ad approvare dei presunti
atti di “omicidio per compassione” e di
eutanasia. Noi facciamo di nuovo
appello ai governi provinciali e territoriali
perché assicurino delle cure palliative di
qualità in tutte le loro giurisdizioni. Noi
imploriamo
anche
le
agenzie
governative e professionali di mettere in
vigore delle politiche e delle direttive che
rispettano la libertà di coscienza di tutti i
lavoratori e gli amministratori della
sanità che non vorranno e che non
potranno accettare il suicidio come una
soluzione medicale alla sofferenza e al
dolore.

Dalla loro fede, i cattolici sono chiamati
ad aiutare ogni persona che si trova in
difficoltà e nel bisogno, soprattutto i
poveri, i sofferenti e i moribondi. Portare
il conforto ai moribondi e accompagnarli
con amore e solidarietà sono delle
espressioni importanti della misericordia
cristiana riconosciute dalla Chiesa sin
dall’ inizio della sua esistenza.
Comunque, aiutare una persona a
suicidarsi non è né un atto di giustizia o
di misericordia, né una cura palliativa.
La decisione presa oggi dalla corte
suprema del Canada non cambia
l’insegnamento
cattolico:
“Così
un’azione oppure un’omissione che, da
sé o intenzionalmente, provoca la morte
allo scopo di porre fine al dolore,
costituisce un’uccisione gravemente
contraria alla dignità della persona
umana e al rispetto del Dio vivente, suo
Creatore.” (Catechismo della Chiesa
cattolica, 2277)

I vescovi del nostro paese invitano tutti i
canadesi, uomini e donne, soprattutto i
cattolici, a fare tutto il possibile per
portare conforto e appoggio a tutte le
persone moribonde e ai loro cari, perché
nessuno di loro, per ragione di
solitudine, di vulnerabilità, di perdita di
autonomia o per la paura di provare il
dolore e di soffrire, sentano che non
hanno altra scelta che quella di ricorrere
al suicidio. La Conferenza dei vescovi
cattolici del Canada continuerà a
promuovere le cure palliative e le cure a
domicilio, e ad incoraggiare tutti i fedeli
a migliorare il benessere degli anziani,
dei disabili, i malati e degli emarginati.

governments and courts to interpret
today's judgment in its narrowest terms,
resisting any calls to go beyond this to
so-called acts of "mercy killing" and
euthanasia. We again call on provincial
and territorial governments to ensure
good-quality palliative care in all their
jurisdictions. We also urge governments
and
professional
associations
to
implement policies and guidelines which
ensure respect for the freedom of
conscience of all health-care workers as
well as administrators who will not and
cannot accept suicide as a medical
solution to pain and suffering.

Catholics are called by their faith to
assist all those in need, particularly the
poor, the suffering and the dying.
Comforting the dying and accompanying
them in love and solidarity has been
considered by the Church since its
beginning a principal expression of
Christian mercy.

Helping someone commit suicide,
however, is neither an act of justice or
mercy, nor is it part of palliative care.
The decision of the Supreme Court of
Canada today (Friday, the 6th 2015)
does not change Catholic teaching.
"[A]n act or omission which, of itself or
by intention, causes death in order to
eliminate suffering constitutes a murder
gravely contrary to the dignity of the
human person and to the respect due to
the living God, our Creator." (Catechism
of the Catholic Church, 2277).
For all parishioners who have been
using Sunday Offerings Envelopes
during 2014, please pick up your 2015
envelopes at the back of church this
weekend February 14th & 15th and the
following weekend February 21st and
22nd. You will also be able to pick up
your tax receipts at the same time.

hours and we will be glad to give you a
set for the year 2015.
The Bishops of our country invite
Canadians, especially Catholics, to do
all they can to bring comfort and support
for all those who are dying and for their
loved ones, so that no one, because of
loneliness,
vulnerability,
loss
of
autonomy, or fear of pain and suffering,
feels they have no choice but to commit
suicide. The Canadian Conference of
Catholic
Bishops
will
continue
to promote palliative and home care,
and to encourage all the faithful to work
for the betterment of the elderly, the
disabled, the ill, and those who are
socially isolated.

We begin Lent, a time
of alms giving to the
poor, a time of prayer
and reflection on the
Jesus’ time in the
desert, as well as a time
to think about the desiccated places within us, where
are we not alive in our Baptismal water? .. Which
part of our heart is still dry? Crusted with sin and
indifference? Stubbornness, pride and intolerance?
Prayer becomes the well to which we need to draw
and Christ’s cross becomes the focus of which will
bring us Salvation … salvation not only from sin, but
from death, our physical death as well as our
spiritual death ( those dying places within us….)
Come, and be marked by the “cross” on your
forehead for you were made from dust and to dust
you shall return in body, and to God, in spirit.

Drop off is YLC 9am and pick up at the Church

experience the Stations of the Cross… A way to
remember the Via of the Cross, as a journey to the
crucifixion with Jesus… Come walk through the
suffering of Jesus as He carries His cross to
Calvary.

As you might know, priests are becoming a rare
kind in our society. Without priests we cannot
fully grow in our faith: we cannot receive our
first communion, receive the sacrament of
reconciliation and celebration of the Holy Mass
would be impossible! We need to get together
and beg our Father in heaven for the gift of
priesthood in general and especially into our
community. We will need to pray for
VOCATIONS: the future generation of priests.

encounter with Jesus every Friday of lent. It
will be a singing prayer-taize style. Please bring
along your children. God especially listens to
the little ones' prayers!
