Dear Parents
Beste ouders, verzorgers,
Welcome to our February newsletter which
provides you with news about what is
happening at the HSV and your school
location. We had a very exciting first week
back when the news of our success of our
Dutch Department was announced by Sander
Dekkers the State Secretary for Education at
our NSL building. Last Friday the HSV
participated in the Dutch International
Schools Maths Challenge. The children had
great fun and did really well. We are very
proud of them.
Please remember there is an early closure for
the half term holiday on Friday 22th Feb. The
children will go home at 12.30
Lorraine Janet Dean International
Department Director
Hierbij de nieuwsbrief van februari. Hiermee
houden we u op de hoogte van wat er op school
gebeurd. In de eerste week was het meteen al
raak. De presentatie door onze staatssecretaris
Sander Dekker van de pilot Tweetalig onderwijs op
onze school.
Ook hebben we meegedaan met Schools Maths
Challenge. De kinderen vonden het leuk en
haalden goede resultaten.
Denk eraan; de laatste vrijdag voor de
voorjaarsvakantie, 21 feb. stoppen we om 12.30.
Staffing News
Elaine Jaiswal will be returning from her
maternity leave at the end of March. We
recently informed the ID2 parents at NSL
that Ms. Erin was going to remain with the
class for the remainder of the year. Ms.
Elaine will work as a cover teacher when she
returns. I am pleased to inform you that two
of our staff are expecting babies. Ms.
Vivienne our Dutch teacher at VNS and Ms.
Janine one of our cover teachers. We are
currently recruiting a temporary Dutch
teacher and Ms. Elaine will cover for Ms
Janine.
VLK Week
VKL week is the time when which parents
have the opportunity to visit specialist
lessons. We are currently in the middle of the
VKL week at VNS. Parents of NSL and KSS
can visit the week beginning February 10th.

VLK Week
In deze week heeft u als ouder de gelegenheid om
een les van aan van onze vakleerkrachten bij te
wonen. Een uitnodiging heeft u al ontvangen. Wij
zien u graag.

Op dit moment hebben we 83 volgers op

Rapporten
De kinderen krijgen de rapporten op vrijdag 21 feb
mee naar huis.
De gesprekken zijn in de 2e week van maart op 11
en 13 maart.
U ontvangt hiervoor een uitnodiging van de
leerkracht.

World Education Games
The World Education Games is taking a break
this year and will return in 2015. In the
meantime the children from ID2 upwards can
practise on Mathletics which will be really
good training for the event.
Mission to Mars
Our ID5 classes and NA8 have been engaged
in a very exciting IPC unit Mission to Mars.
During the month of February they have two
very exciting events. They will link with The
Challenger Space Centre in the USA and
participate in a simulated Space Mission.
Andre Kuipers the Dutch astronaut who
spent time in the European Space Station will
talk to the children studying the unit. Other
children will have the chance to watch via
Internet Access. We are very grateful to
2HSV who have supported this event. Please

Nuclear Safety Summit
From Sunday 22nd until Tuesday 23rd March
the world’s spotlight will be on the city of The
Hague. There is a World Summit on Nuclear
Safety. It is being attended by heads of state
from all over the world and will cause MAJOR
DISRUPTION for travellers to The Hague. It
is highly recommended that you use public
transport, bike or walk during this period.
There will be major road closures.

Mission to Mars
De groepen ID 5 en NA 8 zijn druk bezig met de
IPC unit Mission to Mars.
In de maand februari hebben zij vele activiteiten
gedaan die hier mee te maken hebben. Zo hebben
zij van verschillende mensen van het nationaal
ruimtevaart laboratorium colleges gehad. Hebben
gewerkt aan schaalmodellen van
ruimtevaartschepen en natuurlijk veel geleerd over
de ruimte en de ruimtevaart.
Binnenkort komt zelfs Andre Kuipers, onze
Nederlandse ruimtereiziger, om een college aan de
kinderen te geven.
In de komende weken gaan de kinderen contact
maken met “The Challenger Space Centre” in de
USA om een ruimte missie na te bootsen.
De andere kinderen kunnen dit via Internet Acces
volgen.
Wij zijn heel erg dankbaar dat de stichting 2HSV
dit voor ons heeft mogelijk gemaakt.

Nuclear Safety Summit
Van zondag 22 t/m dinsdag 23 maart staat in de
hele wereld de spotlight gericht op Den Haag. De
World Safety Summit in het Wold Forum in Den
Haag. Hier zullen vele staatshoofden aanwezig
zijn.
Er zijn dan ook veel veiligheidsmaatregelen
getroffen. Diverse wegen zijn geblokkeerd of
afgesloten.
Wij zijn gewoon open en de kinderen kunnen
normaal naar school.
Het zal wel erg druk worden op de andere wegen
in Den Haag.

World Cup Unit
De wereldkampioenschappen voetbal. Vorig jaar
hebben we met groot succes onze eigen stad als
onderwerp van een IPC unit gemaakt.
Wij zijn van plan om dit rondom de
wereldkampioenschappen voetbal weer te doen.
Dat zal plaats vinden in juni. We houden u op de
hoogte en willen weer een leuke unit van maken.

World Cup Unit
Following the success of last year’s The
Hague unit, we will once again be running a
special IPC unit in the summer term.
Naturally there will be one thing that we will
all be talking about in June – the World Cup
and so this will be the theme of the two week
special project!
If you are travelling over the half term,
please do bring back something from that
country so we can start to make World Cup
displays in all our locations.
We look forward to what promises to be a
great unit of learning. More information will
be sent to you nearer the time.
Nassaulaan News
For the coming weeks Flora Dullea will not be
in school. At this time she is unwell and has
been advised by her doctor to have a period
of complete rest. Our thoughts are with her.
Els Boer our school secretary is off school as
she has recently undergone surgery. We all
wish Flora and Els a speedy recovery. Judith
Preston our IDR teacher and former Location
Leader at VNS will be taking on some of
Flora’s duties in her absence. On a Monday
and Tuesday if Judith is not available you can
approach Wilma Kletzkine our NSL Special
needs Coordinator. Her office can be found
on the first floor.
Spring Concert Dates
The Nassaulaan spring concert will be held
on Wednesday April 10th at 6:00 pm. Ms.
Merit is coordinating the concert. We will
send you more details soon.
New Flower Pots
We hope that you are enjoying the plants
that we have put into the urns on the gate
posts. We thing at they make a lovely
welcome to the school. We will replace them
regularly with seasonal flowers.
HSV NSL is Going Green
HSV NSL is Going Green is the theme for the
new playground project. The playground
committee is busy making tentative plans,
seeking quotation, examining results of the
parental playground survey and applying for
funding. We hope that the work will be
completed in the summer vacation 2014.
Happily we have already received our first
subsidy but it is not enough.
The School has requested sponsorship from
the 2HSV Foundation for this project. The
2HSV foundation is going to do their best to
support us. The playground committee will

Flora Dullea, de locatieleider van de ID zal een
paar weken afwezig zijn. Zij heeft van de dokter
een periode complete rust voorgeschreven
gekregen.
Els boer, onze secretaresse, heeft vorige week een
nieuwe heup gekregen. Het herstel gaat goed.
We hopen haar na de voorjaarsvakantie weer te
zien.
Voorjaarsconcerten
Het Nassaulaan voorjaarsconcert zal worden
gehouden op woensdag 16 april. Onze
muziekleerkracht juffrouw Merit zal dit
coördineren.
Let u op de uitnodiging.
Bloempotten
Heft u het gezien? Bij de ingang op de brug staan
weer nieuwe bloemen in de potten. Dat geeft
alvast wat lentegevoel.
HSV gaat Groen
HSV gaat Groen is het thema voor het nieuwe
schoolplein project. De schoolpleincommissie is
druk in de weer met het maken van (voorlopige)
plannen, het uitzetten van offertes, het verwerken
van de ouder enquête en het binnen krijgen van
subsidiegelden.
Dit alles om het huidige schoolplein in een nieuw
jasje te steken.
Het streven is om in de zomervakantie 2014 dit te
kunnen realiseren.
Gelukkig zijn de eerste subsidiegelden al binnen.
Maar nog niet genoeg.
De Schoolpleincommissie heeft ook de stichting 2
HSV om hulp gevraagd om sponsorgeld dat zij
binnen krijgen, om dat (deels) in te zetten voor dit
project.
Zij zijn bereid daar extra hun best voor te doen om
het plan uiteindelijk te kunnen gaan realiseren en
dat is fijn.
De schoolpleincommissie zal u op de hoogte
houden van de ontwikkelingen rondom dit project.

NSL now has its own Twitter feed so

CPC Run
All pupils who signed in by 27th January have
been registered for the CPC Run. We will
have 108 participants from HSV. The run is
being held on Sunday March 9th.
Valentine Disco
The OAC together with the Students Council
is organizing another Fun Valentine Day
Disco this year. It will be held in the NSL
Gym on Friday 14th February from 17.3019.00. The theme is King and Queen of
Hearts. This Disco is for ID5 and ID6, NA6,
NA7 and NA8. Tickets cost 2 euros.
MR
On 27th January the MR gathered for the
first meeting of 2014. For almost 2 ½ hours
teacher representatives and parent
representatives were able to share ideas and
thoughts on a variety of important issues
with the directors of the Dutch and the ID
departments. It was a valuable meeting.
Exactly what was discussed and decided
upon can be read in the MR minutes which
will be posted on the HSV internet site. The
meeting had a special quality because the
parent representatives from the Dutch
department were both present for the first
time. Many MR members are new this school
year.
The MR wishes to thank two parent
representatives, Raymond van der Meer and
Marlies Ruijgrok, who left the MR in
December after contributing in an
extraordinarily valuable and dedicated way to
the work of the MR.
We welcome our new parent representatives,
Andrea Bols-Viales and Alexander Werre.
So that you are aware of who is representing
your interests in the MR, we would like to list
the members here. In future Newsletters we
will explain in more detail what the MR does
and which issues are being discussed. The
next MR meeting will be on 24th March.
CPC
Wij doen dit jaar mee met 108 kinderen aan de
CPC-loop. Een geweldig aantal!!
Komt u ze aanmoedigen op zondag 9 maart?
Valentijnsdisco
Onze disco wordt gehouden op vrijdag 14 februari.
Alle kinderen van de groepen NA 6-7-8 en ID 5-6
zijn welkom. Kosten € 2.
Zie hiervoor ook de brief die is uitgegaan.
MR
Op 27 januari kwamen de leden van de MR voor de
eerste keer in 2014 bij elkaar. Vertegenwoordigers
van de leerkrachten en de ouders konden
bijna 2 ½ uur lang hun ideeën en gedachten met
de directeuren van de Nederlandse en de
Internationale afdelingen delen. Het was een zeer
waardevolle bijeenkomst. Precies wat besproken
en besloten werd kan in het MR verslag gelezen
worden. Het verslag wordt binnenkort op de HSV
website gezet. De bijeenkomst had een bijzondere
kleur omwille van het feit dat de twee
vertegenwoordigers van de Nederlandse ouders
allebei voor de eerste keer erbij waren. Veel leden
van de MR zijn nieuw dit schooljaar.
De MR wil graag twee aftredende ouders,
Raymond van der Meer en Marlies Ruijgrok,
hartelijk danken voor hun bijzondere, waardevolle
en toegewijde inzet voor de MR. Eind 2013 waren
ze allebei voor de laatste keer aanwezig.
Wij willen onze nieuwe leden, Andrea Bols-Viales
en Alexander Werre, van harte welkom heten.
Met de bedoeling dat iedereen weet wie in de MR
zit, leggen we hier een lijst van deelnemers voor.
In de toekomst willen we graag nog meer vertellen
over wat de MR precies doet en welke
onderwerpen ter discussie komen. De volgende MR
bijeenkomst is op 24 maart.
