Dear Parents
Welcome to our March newsletter which provides you with news about what is happening at the HSV and your school location. Once again February was a very exciting month. Our ID5 and group 6 and 8 children had the opportunity to have a lecture from Andre Kuipers, an astronaut who has spent time on the Russian Space Station. He shared his wonderful experiences preparing and being on board the space station with us, along with many wonderful photographs. It was a really special day made possible by the 2HSV foundation. Spring is on the way. There are days are getting longer and Spring flowers are appearing. Remember that the clocks go forward on Sunday March 30 th .

Hierbij de nieuwsbrief van de maand maart. Hiermee houden we u op de hoogte van wat er op school gebeurd. Februari was een spannende maand. Onze groepen 7 en 8 hebben samen met een aantal ID groepen een woensdagochtend les gekregen van Andre Kuipers. Onze eigen astronaut die heeft gewerkt in het Russische Space Station. Hij hield een zeer boeiend verhaal, vergezeld door een hele mooie fotopresentatie. Wij hebben allen genoten van deze ochtend. Dit geweldige evenement werd mogelijk gemaakt door de stichting 2HSV. De lente komt eraan en de dagen worden weer langer. Denkt u eraan dat in het weekeind van 30 mrt de klok weer een uur vooruit wordt gezet.

Staffing News
We are looking forward to the return of Elaine Jaiswal and Christina Goudswaard later this month following the births of their children. We will be saying goodbye to Ewan Gibson in April. Ewan is our music teacher at KSS. He is leaving us to build on the work that he has done at the Conservatorium here in The Hague. We are in the process of recruiting his replacement. We are pleased to welcome Hong Que who has replaced Nathalie McGinn as an assistant in ID1 at NSL. Suzanne Bank-Mulder has been appointed to cover Vivienne Koevoet’s maternity leave at VNS. Personeelsnieuws
Inmiddels zijn er twee personeelsleden bevallen. Juffrouw Petra is bevallen van een zoon genaamd Boaz. En onze muziekjuf Dieuwke heeft een dochter gekregen. Zij heet Ide Rosa. Van harte gefeliciteerd. Els Boer, onze secretaresse, heeft een nieuwe heup. Haar herstel gaat zeer voorspoedig. Vanaf deze week zal zij er op dinsdag en vrijdag weer zijn. Geleidelijk zal ze haar werkzaamheden weer helemaal gaan hervatten. Flora Dullea, locatieleider ID, is nog steeds ziek. Judith Preston, ID-R, neemt zolang haar taken waar.

Returning to School After a Vacation
holidays because the families travel the Monday is not a good idea. Some children did not return to school after the arrangements meant that the children were tired or unwell. When planning holidays travel arrangements should be made in a way that allow the children are well rested for a return to school on the first day of school after a holiday. To return late on a Sunday to start school on We are pleased to report that our number of followers has increased to 90.
School Reports and Parent Consultations
We look forward to meeting you all this week for our parent consultations next week. The consultations are on Tuesday and Thursday.
CPC Run
Many of our children are taking part in the CPC run which is held on The Malieveld this coming Sunday. Our children will assemble at Stand 31. We know that many members of the community take part in the various runs. We wish all of you every success.
Nuclear Safety Summit
As we reported in our last newsletter from Sunday 22 elen-en nd until Tuesday 23 rd March the world’s spotlight will be on the city of The Hague. There is a World Summit on Nuclear Safety. It is being attended by heads of state from all over the world and will cause MAJOR DISRUPTION for travellers to The Hague. It is highly recommended that you use public transport, bike or walk during this period. There will be major road closures. Het rapport van uw kind heeft u intussen ontvangen. De gesprekken staan gepland voor volgende week. Wij hopen u allen dan weer te zien. U ontvangt van de leerkracht van uw kind een uitnodiging.
CPC
Komende zondag is het zover. Met meer dan 100 kinderen lopen we mee. We verzamelen bij stand 31. We wensen jullie allen veel succes en hopelijk goede loopomstandigheden.
Nuclear Safety Summit
Van zondag 22 t/m dinsdag 23 maart staat in de hele wereld de spotlight gericht op Den Haag. De World Safety Summit in het World Forum in Den Haag. Hier zullen vele staatshoofden aanwezig zijn. Er zijn dan ook veel veiligheidsmaatregelen getroffen. Diverse wegen zijn geblokkeerd of afgesloten. Wij zijn gewoon open en de kinderen kunnen normaal naar school. Het zal wel erg druk worden op de andere wegen in Den Haag. Houdt u hier rekening mee. Wij houden ook rekening met het wel of niet op tijd zijn van de kinderen. World Cup Unit
Zoals in de vorige nieuwsbrief gemeld gaan we een World Cup unit schrijven voor het IPC onderwijs. Deze unit zal gedaan worden vanaf maandag 30 juni tot en met vrijdag 11 juli. Vlak voor de finale die dat weekeind plaats vindt. We hopen dat we u zoveel mogelijk bij het project kunnen betrekken. Meer informatie volgt.
Wolverhampton Students
We zijn blij dat het ook dit jaar weer is gelukt om een aantal studenten van de Wolverhampton Universiteit bij ons stage te laten lopen. Zij zijn gespecialiseerd in fotografie, marketing, business en economie en

have specialised in photography, marketing, business and economics and creative writing. Following the success of our filming, calendar and booking making projects these students will work across our three locations and produce an on-line location based magazine. Hard copies will also be available for sale. Further details will follow.
School Swimming
Next school year 2014-15 will be the last year that the HSV participates in the school swimming program. From 2015-16 ID 4/na5 will receive an additional gym lesson instead of going swimming. School swimming takes a lot of curriculum time and many of our children have lessons outside of school. We will continue to promote the importance of swimming with our families and provide information where the children can receive swimming lessons.

Spring Concerts
Each location will hold its annual Spring Concert during April. The details can be found in the location section of this newsletter.
World Cup Unit
This year we are joining in with the World Cup by learning all about it through specially written IPC units. This will take place from Monday 30th June to Friday 11th July, just in time for the final which will take place that weekend. We would love to have you as involved as possible and there are many ways in which you can become involved. More information will be coming nearer the time.
Nassaulaan News Safety
In the interest of the safety of your children and everyone else at the HSV please do not drive your car up to the school gate at drop-off and pick-up times. Please park your car in one of the nearby streets and walk the short creatief schrijven. Vorig jaar hebben de studenten zich voornamelijk met de ID groepen bezig gehouden. Dit jaar worden ze ook voor onze NA groepen ingezet. Zij gaan een online magazine maken voor elke locatie. Papieren versies zullen tegen betaling van de kostprijs ook beschikbaar zijn.
Schoolzwemmen
Het volgend schooljaar zullen we nog deelnemen aan het door de gemeente Den Haag georganiseerde schoolzwemmen. Het jaar daarna, schooljaar 2015-2016 zullen we ermee stoppen. In de praktijk blijkt dat alle kinderen al meerdere diploma’s hebben. De noodzaak van het leren zwemmen is dan ook niet meer aanwezig. Daarnaast is de tijdsinvestering te groot voor het half uurtje zwemles. We zijn bijna de hele ochtend weg.

Nassaulaan Nieuws Voorjaarsconcerten
Het Nassaulaan voorjaarsconcert zal worden gehouden op woensdag 16 april. Onze muziekleerkracht juffrouw Merit zal dit coördineren. Let u op de uitnodiging.
Valentijnsdisco
De gymzaal was omgetoverd tot een echte disco. DJ’s Casper en Toby zorgden voor passende muziek. Het was een feest. Eten en drinken genoeg. Het was gezellig druk en de sfeer was prima. Hartelijk dank aan de ouders die zich hiervoor weer hebben ingezet.
Veiligheid
We denken allen aan onze veiligheid maar nog meer aan de veiligheid van onze kinderen. Graag zien we dat u de kinderen niet met de auto maar lopend of met de fiets brengt. Als u toch met de auto moet komen, parkeert u deze dan op Plein 1813 of de Sofialaan en doe het laatste stukje lopend.

distance to school. Please do not cycle across the school playground. Most of the children do their best to keep the playground safe, only a few children need reminding to get on and off their bikes at the school gate. We kindly ask the parents to respect the school rules too!
Valentine’s disco
The gym was transformed into a real disco. Our resident DJ’s Casper and Toby took care of the music. It was a great party, with plenty to eat and drink. It was really well attended and the atmosphere was lovely! Thank you to all the parents who helped make it happen.
Mother Tongue lunches
Our programme of lunches for the children is well underway. So far we have enjoyed French and German lunches. Children in the ID and the NA will be invited for lunch in Portuguese and Italian over the next couple of weeks. Please contact Catie Heemskerk or Judith Preston if you would like to organize or attend a mother tongue lunch.
Spring Concert
The NSL concert will be held on Wednesday 16 th April. Our music teacher Juf Merit will organize the concert. You will receive and invitation shortly.
Afrokids
26 th Juf Vivienne from VNS has been to NSL to show all the children a short film and talk them about this year’s charity, Afrokids. On Wednesday March we will hold an African market after school, at 12.30 in the gym and in the speellokaal. The children will make goods to be sold at the market and we will ask class parents to come and help set up the stalls on the day. Please see your class teacher and/or class parent for more information.
Bi-lingual Education in the Dutch department at the HSV
The project team is busy working on the implementation of the new programme in September. Two members of the team recently attended an international education conference in Amsterdam, ‘Developing Multi-literate Global Citizens’, where bi-lingual education featured highly on the agenda. Later this month they will be spending a day with educators from all over the Netherlands to learn more about teaching English in Dutch primary schools, especially in the Early Years. Komt u op de fiets, fiets dan niet over het plein, dit geldt ook voor de kinderen. Met elkaar proberen we van de school een veilige omgeving te maken.
MoedertaalLunch
Wij organiseren eens in de paar weken een zgn Moedertaallunch. Dit is een bijeenkomst waarbij we kinderen met dezelfde moedertaal van beide afdelingen met elkaar samenbrengen. Ook nodigen we hierbij ouders uit. Doel is om ze op dat moment in hun eigen taal samen te laten zijn. Tot nu toe is er een Franse en Duitse lunch geweest. Binnenkort komen de Portugese en Italiaanse kinderen aan de beurt. Wilt u meehelpen of meedoen? Neem dan contact op met juffrouw Judith Preston van ID-R.
Afrokids
Juffrouw Vivienne van de locatie VNS is op school langs geweest om met de kinderen te praten over Afrokids, ons goede doel van dit jaar. Zij heeft de kinderen een korte film getoond over de doelen die Afrokids heeft. Op woensdag 26 maart houden we na schooltijd een Afrikaanse markt in het speellokaal. De kinderen hebben hiervoor attributen gemaakt die dan ter verkoop worden aangeboden. Ook zijn er originele Afrikaanse attributen te verkrijgen. Meer weten, vraag het de leerkracht van uw kind.
Tweetalig onderwijs
Zoals u weet gaan we volgend schooljaar starten met Tweetalig onderwijs in de onze groepen 1 . Het projectteam is al druk bezig met het samenstellen van het programma. Twee leden zijn kortgeleden naar een conferentie in Amsterdam geweest met als thema: Developing Multi-literate Global Citizens’, waar tweetalig onderwijs het hoofdthema was. Later deze maand bezoeken zij een congres waar het thema tweetalig onderwijs in de onderbouw is. Zij ontmoeten hier ook de collega’s van de andere scholen die aan deze pilot meedoen.
