During construction, maintenance, and
all other activities on our highways, it
shall be the policy of IDOT to provide a
high level of safety for workers and the
public, to minimize congestion and
adverse community impacts, and to
provide greater public satisfaction.

Reduce And Eliminate Crashes And
Fatalities, And To Mitigate
Congestion Due To Work Zones

Safety Goals :
• Zero Worker Fatalities
• Reduce motorist fatalities in traffic-related
work zone crashes by 10% each year with
the eventual goal of eliminating all of
these fatalities.
• Eliminate crashes, resulting fatalities, and
serious injuries caused by queuing.
• 5% Annual Reduction of WZ crashes

• Delays Shall Not Exceed 5 Min/Mile with a
Max. of 30 Minutes
• Queues Shall Not Exceed 1.5 Miles
