BGREI was initiated in 2010-11

Addressing the constraints limiting the productivity of “rice
based cropping systems” in eastern India
•
States covered Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha,
Eastern Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal
• BGREI implemented in identified districts that are not covered
under NFSM
• Focused approach on medium and long term strategies for asset
building activities of water conservation and utilization
• Short-term strategies pertaining to transfer of technology

MONITORING AND EVALUATION
1. National Level

A. An Apex Committee on Agriculture for Eastern India has also been constituted
under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Prime Minister

( to ensure coordinated delivery of services to the farmers in the seven Eastern States and provide
necessary impetus to the on-going efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture under BGREI and other
programmes and schemes aiding agricultural development in the region)
B. Central Steering Committee (CSC) under the Chairmanship of Secretary (A&C)
2. State level
•
State Level Monitoring Team (SLMT) for each state under the Chairmanship of an Additional
Secretary/Joint Secretary of the Department of Agriculture
3.District level
•
District Level Monitoring Teams (DLMT) headed by District Agriculture Officer
4. Research Institute- CRRI is the nodal agency for monitoring the programme.
