How-to's
Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at 7:00 p.m. at the Chelmsford Public Library Presented by Marie Craig Marie Craig of "Marie's Home Improvement" will give tips on how to be your own handyman in a "How-To's-Day" workshop she titles "Empowerment Thru Power Tools!" Marie will share her history and what she has learned about herself by taking on more challenging, different projects. She'll explain how it has helped her in all areas of her life. Marie will give an introduction to a basic tool kit and supply information on where you can go to get help in books and on line. If time and space allow you may have the opportunity to try an elec tric drill or battery powered screwdriver. You might even get to replace a door-knob! And, of course, there will be time for your questions.
Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at the Chelmsford Public Library Presented by Bob Longacre , educator, carpenter and professional feng shui practitioner Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art of placement that seeks to diagnose, channel, alter and enhance ch’i flow throughout our reality to help restore harmony. Using a blend of slides and lecture, we will discuss examples of healthy conduits as well as "seeing" blockages of the flow of ch’i in our homes, offices and property. Learn the basics of feng shui principles and some simple inexpensive solutions to bring immediate changes in your life. For beginners and experienced. Funded by the Chelmsford Friends of the Library.

Formulas for Successful Programs?
Research-Assess Community & Topic Planning Collaborate with Other Groups PUBLICITY- PUBLICITY- PUBLICITY Do it better next time (evaluation)
Think out of the box but stay connected to your community
We, as library staff, are in a good position to perceive trends, issues and concerns in a community by paying attention to the types of .
requests and questions we get from our public. If you look closely, in every question there’s a library program!
Publicity
As soon as possible execute your publicity . -Begin with in-house publicity-staff, webpage, Friends’ newsletter and bulletin board. Mailing lists? -Create press releases, flyers, displays & handouts. Email, FAX or mail flyers to other libraries, Senior Center, town offices. - PTO newsletters, mail flyers to churches for posting -Calendar listings in local newspapers. -Use your local cable TV station -Are there any local organizations that will help you spread the word? Offer to speak at a Rotary Club meeting. Ask the Selectmen and School Committees to announce the program Think of newspaper publicity as only reinforcement of the message you are sending out. Do not depend on newspapers to publicize your program.
