nobility and strength
• Someone who fights for a cause
• (classical mythology) a being of great strength
and courage celebrated for bold exploits; often
the offspring of a mortal and a god
Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he
was called to go out to the place which he would
receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not
knowing where he was going.
Hebrews 11:17 By faith Abraham, when he was
tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received
the promises offered up his only begotten son,
18 of whom it was said, "In Isaac your seed shall
be called," 19 concluding that God was able to
raise him up, even from the dead, from which he
also received him in a figurative sense.
1 Samuel 17:45 Then David said to the Philistine,
"You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and
with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of
the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of
Israel, whom you have defied. 46 "This day the
LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will
strike you and take your head from you. And this
day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the
Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild
beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know
that there is a God in Israel. 47 "Then all this
assembly shall know that the LORD does not save
with sword and spear; for the battle is the
LORD's, and He will give you into our hands."
2 Samuel 23:8 These are the names of the mighty men
whom David had: Josheb-Basshebeth the Tachmonite,
chief among the captains. He was called Adino the Eznite,
because he had killed eight hundred men at one time.
9 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite,
one of the three mighty men with David when they defied
the Philistines who were gathered there for battle, and
the men of Israel had retreated. 10 He arose and
attacked the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his
hand stuck to the sword. The LORD brought about a great
victory that day; and the people returned after him only to
plunder. 11 And after him was Shammah the son of Agee
the Hararite. The Philistines had gathered together into a
troop where there was a piece of ground full of lentils.
Then the people fled from the Philistines. 12 But he
stationed himself in the middle of the field, defended it,
and killed the Philistines. And the LORD brought about a
great victory.
Esther 4:10 Then Esther spoke to Hathach, and gave him a
command for Mordecai: 11 "All the king's servants and the people
of the king's provinces know that any man or woman who goes
into the inner court to the king, who has not been called, he has
but one law: put all to death, except the one to whom the king
holds out the golden scepter, that he may live. Yet I myself have
not been called to go in to the king these thirty days." 12 So they
told Mordecai Esther's words. 13 And Mordecai told them to
answer Esther: "Do not think in your heart that you will escape in
the king's palace any more than all the other Jews. 14 "For if you
remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will
arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's
house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the
kingdom for such a time as this?" 15 Then Esther told them to
reply to Mordecai: 16 "Go, gather all the Jews who are present in
Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days,
night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to
the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!"
Daniel 6:10 Now when Daniel knew that the
writing was signed, he went home. And in his
upper room, with his windows open toward
Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three
times that day, and prayed and gave thanks
before his God, as was his custom since early
days.
Daniel 3:16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego
answered and said to the king, "O
Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you
in this matter. 17 "If that is the case, our God
whom we serve is able to deliver us from the
burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from
your hand, O king. 18 "But if not, let it be known
to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods,
nor will we worship the gold image which you
have set up."
Acts 7:57 Then they cried out with a loud voice,
stopped their ears, and ran at him with one
accord; 58 and they cast him out of the city and
stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their
clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul.
59 And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on
God and saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."
60 Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud
voice, "Lord, do not charge them with this sin."
And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
2 Corinthians 4:8 We are hard pressed on every side, yet
not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9
persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not
destroyed -- 10 always carrying about in the body the
dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be
manifested in our body. 11 For we who live are always
delivered to death for Jesus' sake, that the life of Jesus
also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. 12 So then
death is working in us, but life in you. 13 And since we
have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written,
"I believed and therefore I spoke," we also believe and
therefore speak, 14 knowing that He who raised up the
Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will
present us with you.
15 For all things are for your sakes, that grace,
having spread through the many, may cause
thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God. 16 ¶
Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our
outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is
being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction,
which is but for a moment, is working for us a far
more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18
while we do not look at the things which are seen,
but at the things which are not seen. For the things
which are seen are temporary, but the things which
are not seen are eternal.
John 10:17 "Therefore My Father loves Me,
because I lay down My life that I may take it
again. 18 "No one takes it from Me, but I lay it
down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and
I have power to take it again. This command I
have received from My Father."
John 15:12 "This is My commandment, that you
love one another as I have loved you. 13
"Greater love has no one than this, than to lay
down one's life for his friends.
Luke 22:41 And He was withdrawn from them
about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and
prayed, 42 saying, "Father, if it is Your will, take
this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will,
but Yours, be done." 43 Then an angel appeared
to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. 44 And
being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then
His sweat became like great drops of blood falling
down to the ground.
1 Peter 2:21 For to this you were called, because
Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example,
that you should follow His steps: 22 "Who
committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His
mouth"; 23 who, when He was reviled, did not
revile in return; when He suffered, He did not
threaten, but committed Himself to Him who
judges righteously; 24 who Himself bore our sins
in His own body on the tree, that we, having died
to sins, might live for righteousness -- by whose
stripes you were healed. 25 For you were like
sheep going astray, but have now returned to the
Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
