MEN NEEDED IN THE CHURCH
PART 1
Timothy
• His parents had an unlawful marriage Duet. 7:3
• He was uncircumcised = cut off from his
people Gen. 17:14
2 Timothy 3:14 But you must continue in the
things which you have learned and been assured
of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
15 and that from childhood you have known the
Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise
for salvation through faith which is in Christ
Jesus. 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of
God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17
that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly
equipped for every good work.
Acts 16:1 Then he came to Derbe and Lystra. And
behold, a certain disciple was there, named
Timothy, the son of a certain Jewish woman who
believed, but his father was Greek. 2 He was well
spoken of by the brethren who were at Lystra and
Iconium. 3 Paul wanted to have him go on with
him. And he took him and circumcised him
because of the Jews who were in that region, for
they all knew that his father was Greek.
Matthew 19:9 "And I say to you, whoever
divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality,
and marries another, commits adultery; and
whoever marries her who is divorced commits
adultery."
1 Corinthians 10:23 All things are lawful for me,
but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful
for me, but not all things edify.
2 Timothy 4:1 I charge you therefore before God
and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the
living and the dead at His appearing and His
kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season
and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with
all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will
come when they will not endure sound doctrine,
but according to their own desires, because they
have itching ears, they will heap up for
themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their
ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to
fables. 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure
afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill
your ministry.
2 Timothy 2:2 And the things that you have heard
from me among many witnesses, commit these to
faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
1 Kings 3:5 At Gibeon the LORD appeared to
Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, "Ask!
What shall I give you?" 6 And Solomon said: "You
have shown great mercy to Your servant David
my father, because he walked before You in truth,
in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with
You; You have continued this great kindness for
him, and You have given him a son to sit on his
throne, as it is this day. 7 "Now, O LORD my God,
You have made Your servant king instead of my
father David, but I am a little child; I do not know
how to go out or come in. 8 "And Your servant is
in the midst of Your people whom You have
chosen, a great people, too numerous to be
numbered or counted.
"Therefore give to Your servant an
understanding heart to judge Your people, that I
may discern between good and evil. For who is
able to judge this great people of Yours?" 10 The
speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had
asked this thing. 11 Then God said to him:
"Because you have asked this thing, and have not
asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches
for yourself, nor have asked the life of your
enemies, but have asked for yourself
understanding to discern justice,
9
"behold, I have done according to your words;
see, I have given you a wise and understanding
heart, so that there has not been anyone like you
before you, nor shall any like you arise after you.
13 "And I have also given you what you have not
asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall
not be anyone like you among the kings all your
days.
12
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your
heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall
direct your paths. 7 Do not be wise in your own
eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. 8 It
will be health to your flesh, And strength to your
bones.
6
"behold, I have done according to your words;
see, I have given you a wise and understanding
heart, so that there has not been anyone like you
before you, nor shall any like you arise after you.
12
The church needs men like Joshua and Caleb
Numbers 13:1 And the LORD spoke to Moses,
saying, 2 "Send men to spy out the land of
Canaan, which I am giving to the children of
Israel; from each tribe of their fathers you shall
send a man, every one a leader among them."
Numbers 13:17 Then Moses sent them to spy out
the land of Canaan, and said to them, "Go up this
way into the South, and go up to the mountains,
18 "and see what the land is like: whether the
people who dwell in it are strong or weak, few or
many; 19 "whether the land they dwell in is good
or bad; whether the cities they inhabit are like
camps or strongholds; 20 "whether the land is
rich or poor; and whether there are forests there
or not. Be of good courage. And bring some of the
fruit of the land." Now the time was the season of
the first ripe grapes.
Numbers 13:25 And they returned from spying
out the land after forty days. 26 Now they
departed and came back to Moses and Aaron and
all the congregation of the children of Israel in
the Wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought
back word to them and to all the congregation,
and showed them the fruit of the land. 27 Then
they told him, and said: "We went to the land
where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and
honey, and this is its fruit. 28 "Nevertheless the
people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities
are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the
descendants of Anak there. 29 "The Amalekites
dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the
Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains;
and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the
banks of the Jordan." 30 Then Caleb quieted the
people before Moses, and said, "Let us go up at once
and take possession, for we are well able to
overcome it." 31 But the men who had gone up with
him said, "We are not able to go up against the
people, for they are stronger than we." 32 And they
gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land
which they had spied out, saying, "The land through
which we have gone as spies is a land that devours
its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it
are men of great stature. 33 "There we saw the giants
(the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and
we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so
we were in their sight."
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through
Christ who strengthens me.
We need men like Joseph
Genesis 39:7 And it came to pass after these
things that his master's wife cast longing eyes on
Joseph, and she said, "Lie with me." 8 But he
refused and said to his master's wife, "Look, my
master does not know what is with me in the
house, and he has committed all that he has to
my hand. 9 "There is no one greater in this house
than I, nor has he kept back anything from me
but you, because you are his wife. How then can I
do this great wickedness, and sin against God?"
10 So it was, as she spoke to Joseph day by day,
that he did not heed her, to lie with her or to be
with her.
But it happened about this time, when Joseph
went into the house to do his work, and none of
the men of the house was inside, 12 that she
caught him by his garment, saying, "Lie with me."
But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and
ran outside. 13 And so it was, when she saw that
he had left his garment in her hand and fled
outside, 14 that she called to the men of her
house and spoke to them, saying, "See, he has
brought in to us a Hebrew to mock us. He came in
to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud
voice.
11
"And it happened, when he heard that I lifted
my voice and cried out, that he left his garment
with me, and fled and went outside." 16 So she
kept his garment with her until his master came
home. 17 Then she spoke to him with words like
these, saying, "The Hebrew servant whom you
brought to us came in to me to mock me; 18 "so it
happened, as I lifted my voice and cried out, that
he left his garment with me and fled outside."

2 Corinthians 10:5 bringing every thought into
captivity to the obedience of Christ,
Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of
your mind, that you may prove what is that good
and acceptable and perfect will of God.
MEN NEEDED IN THE CHURCH
PART 2
Daniel and his three friends Shadrach, Meshach,
and Abed-Nego
Dan 1: 8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he
would not defile himself with the portion of the
king's delicacies, nor with the wine which he
drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the
eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
Dan 1: 9 Now God had brought Daniel into the
favor and goodwill of the chief of the eunuchs.
Dan 2: 48 Then the king promoted Daniel and
gave him many great gifts; and he made him ruler
over the whole province of Babylon, and chief
administrator over all the wise men of Babylon.
49 Also Daniel petitioned the king, and he set
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego over the
affairs of the province of Babylon; but Daniel sat
in the gate of the king.
Daniel 3:12 "There are certain Jews whom you
have set over the affairs of the province of
Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego;
these men, O king, have not paid due regard to
you. They do not serve your gods or worship the
gold image which you have set up." 13 Then
Nebuchadnezzar, in rage and fury, gave the
command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and AbedNego. So they brought these men before the king.
14 Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, "Is it
true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that
you do not serve my gods or worship the gold
image which I have set up? 15 "Now if you are
ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn,
flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with
all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship
the image which I have made, good! But if you do
not worship, you shall be cast immediately into
the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is
the god who will deliver you from my hands?" 16
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered
and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we
have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 "If
that is the case, our God whom we serve is able
to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and
He will deliver us from your hand, O king. 18 "But
if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do
not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold
image which you have set up."
Dan 6: 10 Now when Daniel knew that the
writing was signed, he went home. And in his
upper room, with his windows open toward
Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three
times that day, and prayed and gave thanks
before his God, as was his custom since early
days.
Luke 18:1 …men always ought to pray and not
lose heart,
We need men like Abraham
Genesis 12:1 Now the LORD had said to Abram:
"Get out of your country, From your family And
from your father's house, To a land that I will
show you. 2 I will make you a great nation; I will
bless you And make your name great; And you
shall be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless
you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in
you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."
4 So Abram departed as the LORD had spoken to
him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was
seventy-five years old when he departed from
Haran.
Genesis 13:6 Now the land was not able to
support them, that they might dwell together, for
their possessions were so great that they could
not dwell together. 7 And there was strife
between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and
the herdsmen of Lot's livestock. The Canaanites
and the Perizzites then dwelt in the land. 8 So
Abram said to Lot, "Please let there be no strife
between you and me, and between my herdsmen
and your herdsmen; for we are brethren. 9 "Is
not the whole land before you? Please separate
from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the
right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to
the left."
And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of
Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere
(before the LORD destroyed Sodom and
Gomorrah) like the garden of the LORD, like the
land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar. 11 Then Lot
chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot
journeyed east. And they separated from each
other. 12 Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and
Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his
tent even as far as Sodom.
10
Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through
selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of
mind let each esteem others better than himself.
4 Let each of you look out not only for his own
interests, but also for the interests of others. 5
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ
Jesus,
Ephesians 6:4 And you, fathers, do not provoke
your children to wrath, but bring them up in the
training and admonition of the Lord.
Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just
as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself
for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her
with the washing of water by the word, 27 that
He might present her to Himself a glorious
church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such
thing, but that she should be holy and without
blemish. 28 So husbands ought to love their own
wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife
loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own
flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the
Lord does the church.
Luke 14:26 "If anyone comes to Me and does not
hate his father and mother, wife and children,
brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he
cannot be My disciple.
Matthew 10:37 "He who loves father or mother
more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who
loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy
of Me.
Genesis 22:1 Now it came to pass after these
things that God tested Abraham, and said to him,
"Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am." 2 Then He
said, "Take now your son, your only son Isaac,
whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and
offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the
mountains of which I shall tell you." 3 So
Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled
his donkey, and took two of his young men with
him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for
the burnt offering, and arose and went to the
place of which God had told him.
Nehemiah 2:11 So I came to Jerusalem and was
there three days. 12 Then I arose in the night, I
and a few men with me; I told no one what my
God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem; nor
was there any animal with me, except the one on
which I rode. 13 And I went out by night through
the Valley Gate to the Serpent Well and the
Refuse Gate, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem
which were broken down and its gates which
were burned with fire. 14 Then I went on to the
Fountain Gate and to the King's Pool, but there
was no room for the animal under me to pass. 15
So I went up in the night by the valley, and
viewed the wall; then I turned back and entered
by the Valley Gate, and so returned.
And the officials did not know where I had
gone or what I had done; I had not yet told the
Jews, the priests, the nobles, the officials, or the
others who did the work. 17 Then I said to them,
"You see the distress that we are in, how
Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned
with fire. Come and let us build the wall of
Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach."
18 And I told them of the hand of my God which
had been good upon me, and also of the king's
words that he had spoken to me. So they said,
"Let us rise up and build." Then they set their
hands to this good work.
