• Romans 8: 28 And we know that God causes
all things to work together for good to those
who love God, to those who are called
according to His purpose. 29For those whom
He foreknew, He also predestined to become
conformed to the image of His Son, so that He
would be the firstborn among many brethren;
30and these whom He predestined, He also
called; and these whom He called, He also
justified; and these whom He justified, He also
glorified.
• Romans 8: 28 And we know that
God causes all things to work
together for good to those who
love God, to those who are called
according to His purpose.
KNOW-BELIEVE-LIVE
• James 2:19 You believe that God
is one; you do well. Even the
demons believe—and shudder!
• Romans 8: 28 And we know that
God causes all things to work
together for good to those who
love God, to those who are called
according to His purpose.
THE CONTEXT
Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of
this present time are not worth comparing with
the glory that is to be revealed to us. 22 For we
know that the whole creation has been groaning
together in the pains of childbirth until now.
23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves,
who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan
inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as
sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in
this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen
is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees?
25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we
wait for it with patience.
ALL THINGS
• Genesis 50:19 But Joseph said to them, “Do
not fear, for am I in the place of God? 20 As
for you, you meant evil against me, but God
meant it for good, to bring it about that many
people should be kept alive, as they are today.
21 So do not fear; I will provide for you and
your little ones.” Thus he comforted them and
spoke kindly to them.
ALL THINGS
• Philippians 1:12 I want you to know, brothers,
that what has happened to me has really
served to advance the gospel, 13 so that it has
become known throughout the whole
imperial guard and to all the rest that my
imprisonment is for Christ. 14 And most of the
brothers, having become confident in the Lord
by my imprisonment, are much more bold to
speak the word without fear.
• Romans 8: 28 And we know that
God causes all things to work
together for good to those who
love God, to those who are called
according to His purpose.
THOSE WHO LOVE GOD
• John 14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my
commandments.
• John 14:21 Whoever has my commandments
and keeps them, he it is who loves me.
• John 14:23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone
loves me, he will keep my word
• John 14:24 Whoever does not love me does
not keep my words.
• Romans 8: 28 And we know that
God causes all things to work
together for good to those who
love God, to those who are called
according to His purpose.
CALLED TO HIS PURPOSE
• 2 Timothy 1:8…share in suffering for the
gospel by the power of God, 9 who saved us
and called us to a holy calling, not because of
our works but because of his own purpose
and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus
before the ages began, 10 and which now has
been manifested through the appearing of our
Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and
brought life and immortality to light through
the gospel

GOD IS SOVEREIGN IN SALVATION
• Jude 1:1 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ
and brother of James, To those who are
called, beloved in God the Father and
kept for Jesus Christ
• Philippians 1:6 And I am sure of this, that
he who began a good work in you will
bring it to completion at the day of Jesus
Christ.
GOD IS SOVEREIGN IN SALVATION
• Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have
been saved through faith. And this is not
your own doing; it is the gift of God,
9 not a result of works, so that no one
may boast. 10 For we are his
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for
good works, which God prepared
beforehand, that we should walk in
them.
GOD’S PURPOSES: US & CHRIST
• Romans 8:29 For those whom He
foreknew, He also predestined to become
conformed to the image of His Son, so
that He would be the firstborn among
many brethren; 30and these whom He
predestined, He also called; and these
whom He called, He also justified; and
these whom He justified, He also
glorified.
GOD’S PURPOSES FOR US
• Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in
Christ with every spiritual blessing in the
heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him
before the foundation of the world, that we
should be holy and blameless before him. In
love 5 he predestined us for adoption as sons
through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose
of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace,
with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.
GOD’S PURPOSES: US & CHRIST
• Romans 8:29 For those whom He
foreknew, He also predestined to become
conformed to the image of His Son, so
that He would be the firstborn among
many brethren; 30and these whom He
predestined, He also called; and these
whom He called, He also justified; and
these whom He justified, He also
glorified.
GOD’S PURPOSES FOR CHRIST
• Colossians 1:15 He is the image of the invisible
God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by
him all things were created, in heaven and on
earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or
dominions or rulers or authorities—all things
were created through him and for him. 17 And
he is before all things, and in him all things
hold together. 18 And he is the head of the
body, the church. He is the beginning, the
firstborn from the dead, that in everything he
might be preeminent.
GOD’S PURPOSES FOR CHRIST
• Philippians 2:9 Therefore God has
highly exalted him and bestowed on
him the name that is above every
name, 10 so that at the name of
Jesus every knee should bow, in
heaven and on earth and under the
earth, 11 and every tongue confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory
of God the Father.
PRINCIPLES
• God is sovereign over all things
• Life in the “middle time” is hard & good
• God has logical morally justifiable reasons for
what He allows (but doesn’t usually tell us)
• God makes all things (sad & joyful) work for
the believers good (eventually)
• God is sovereign over salvation
• Whoever God saves is eternally saved.
• Believers are responsible for their worldview
APPLICATIONS
• How does your relationship to the One Triune
God effect your response to life events?
• How do life events effect your relationship to
the One Triune God?
• Do you have an eternal perspective or a “today
only” perspective to life events?
• What do you say about your salvation?
• How do you pray about the salvation of others?
