Background
• Every year, the Bicycle and Pedestrian
Subcommittee approves a list of top priority
unfunded bicycle and pedestrian projects.
• At its September 16 meeting the Subcommittee
approved the most recent list
– Previous lists were adopted in December 2007, and
December 2006
– Lists have been adopted annually (most years) since
1995
• The list is a statement of priorities among the
unfunded or partially funded bicycle and
pedestrian projects from local, state, agency,
and regional plans

Changes Since December 2007
• Falls Road Shared-Use Path in Montgomery
County received full funding totaling $5,000,000
• Four projects on the 2007 list received partial
funding, totaling $2,444,000
• Four new projects have been added to the list:
– MacArthur Boulevard Bikeway Improvements in
Montgomery County
– Monocacy River Greenway Phase I in Frederick
County
– Leesburg Pike Pedestrian Improvements in Fairfax
County
– Old Bridge Road Sidewalk in Prince William County

– Design/build contract signed
– Key 1.5 mile segment
– Will connect to Florida Ave Bridge & NY Ave Metro
• Users will be able to ride off-road from Union Station to Franklin St.
– Funding still needed for bridge to Rhode Island Metro

Summary
• The Bicycle and Pedestrian Subcommittee has
identified the top priority unfunded bicycle and
pedestrian projects, from a regional perspective
• Cost of these projects is modest
– Funding requested for FY 2010 is less than 1% of
highway project funding for that year
• This priority list is proposed for consideration by
member agencies for inclusion in the current or
in future TIPs.
