Professorial Pay Banding

• A transparent salary determination process with clear criteria • Profs CVs reviewed against criteria for each band over the summer • Outcomes have now been communicated • Effective from October 2008 • Appeal system in place • Opportunity to apply to move bands annually • Will also apply to new appointees

Headline outcomes

• 34% of professors received pay increases • No change to pay for 56% of professors • 6% banded below their current salary level • Newly appointed professors – banding deferred • Similar percentages in each band across the Schools • Equal pay audit on completion of appeals

Next step – review of salary within band

• Performance reviewed on a biennial cycle linked to appraisal • Interactive web interface with data pulled from other UCL systems • Assessement of contribution against objectives • Achievements/contribution will feed through to a performance rating • Those whose performance is outstanding will be considered for a salary increase
