Status Update
• Concept - A silent, portable, comfortable,
battery-operated, phone activated, vibrating
pillow cover.
• Project Idea – Finalized
• Parts – Purchased and destroyed a massage
chair from Bed, Bath& Beyond (for research).
Other parts have been ordered and being
shipped.
• Customer Survey – Informal surveys show
mostly positive feedback
Architecture
• Our basic diagram has not changed.
Serial port bluetooth module
Arduino Nano
Blue-tooth enabled
android phone
Solarbotics VPM2
Vibrating Disk Motor
Double A’s
• Other parts: Pillow covers (purchased), padding
(researching), connectors (researching)
Use Cases
•
Normal Use Case
• Failure Case 1
• Pillow battery dies
• Bluetooth out of range
• Failure Case 2
• User does not wake up
Risks & Mitigation
Risks
Mitigation
- Hardware too bulky for pillow cover to be
comfortable
Strategic placing of hardware (pun
intended) like batteries and wires and
testing padding
- User not waking up (vibration not enough,
user tosses pillow etc.)
Using variable motors and cell-phone
speaker backup
- Hardware disconnect due to rough user
interaction (no pillow fights)
Testing with a variety of connectors and
padding
- Not water-proof (drool proof)
Having warning labels. Just kidding, water
proofing inner layers.
- Battery power not enough
Using rechargeable batteries or AC/DC
converters
- Vibrations too noisy
Including variable motor settings
