Centre for Learning and Teaching ICT Integration in Learning and Teaching WBLE (Web-based Learning Environment) May 2011 by Ms Winnie Er Pek Hoon Preliminaries • Web-based Learning Environment (WBLE) is Utar’s version of e-learning portal. • Others: WOU’s Learning Management System (LMS) • It started in late 2005. • Since then, it has gone through one upgrade. (Late 2005 - April 2009) (May 2009 to now) • University encourages all staff to actively use WBLE. • Good to do so especially if you are being interviewed during MQA accreditation. E-learning delivery is one of the things the assessors look into when evaluating our courses. Course Creation and Settings 1. How to create a Course in WBLE 2. How to turn on the Editing Function 3. Course Setting - How to change information about your course. – Edit Course setting – Weekly Format, Topic Format, Social Format – Group setting – Revealing Key Menus/Items that you need, e.g. Messages, People, Online Users, Loan Calculators. Posting Lecture and Teaching Materials 4. How to reduce content size before uploading materials. 5. How to upload/post lecture or other files a. Posting of lecture notes and tutorials – How to upload “Word File, Excel File, Power-point file, PDF file”. Teach students to download these. b. Different methods for different files. How to construct a database Constructing Assignment link • Lecturers should endeavour to let the students submit their assignments electronically – save paper and reduce costs for the students. • Especially lecturers who require students to submit a short 2-page Assignment every 2 weeks. • This link is for you to receive all assignments in one place, as opposed to students emailing you individually and you end up sieving through your mailbox for their assignments. • This function is also useful if you want to receive draft assignments/tutorial assignments from them. 12.
