National Teach Ag Campaign State Teach Ag Results (STAR) Program • Deliberate and results driven program for selected states to develop a sustainable and effective recruitment and retention plan supported and guided by the National Teach Ag Campaign. • The first group of states have completed their initial assessment and planning meeting. (NC, MO, IL, NE, MS, NY, MN, KS, OR, IN, CA). STAR teams are finalizing their plans, determining a working budget and beginning to set their plans in motion this fall. • The next round of states will begin the process in December/January. They include ID, IA, PA and SD. There may be an opportunity for an additional 1-2 states in the January cohort. • The data collected from the 11 states is very telling. The main shortage problem does not appear to be retention based but rather recruitment based. States are implementing a variety of strategies to address this. The strategies will be shared in the coming months. National Teach Ag Campaign National Teach Ag Day Thursday, September 25, 2014; CHS, Inc. in Minnesota • Nationwide day to encourage others to consider teaching agriculture, raise awareness of the need to recruit and retain agriculture teachers and celebrate the positive contributions that agriculture teachers make in their schools and communities. • This is the 5th National Teach Ag Day • 3rd consecutive year of the live stream event • Livestream begins at 1pm ET and ends at 3pm ET – video will be embedded into the Teach Ag website for easy viewer access • There will also be a dialogue meeting with agribusiness leaders, policy makers and ag ed stakeholders the day before the live stream.
