WHAT IS THE CHRISTIAN LIFE?
PART 2
1.The hard hearted or hard headed.
2.Those who make an emotional response.
3.Those who are heavily planted in the world and
influenced by it.
4.Those who think things through and stay
committed to their decision.
The Christian life is a life of prayer.
1 Thessalonians 5:16 Rejoice always, 17 pray
without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
A day without prayer is a day without blessing,
and a life without prayer is a life without power.”
— Edwin Harvey
Acts 4:23 And being let go, they went to their
own companions and reported all that the chief
priests and elders had said to them. 24 So when
they heard that, they raised their voice to God
with one accord and said: "Lord, You are God,
who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all
that is in them, 25 "who by the mouth of Your
servant David have said: 'Why did the nations
rage, And the people plot vain things? 26 The
kings of the earth took their stand, And the rulers
were gathered together Against the LORD and
against His Christ.'
27 "For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus,
whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius
Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel,
were gathered together 28 "to do whatever Your
hand and Your purpose determined before to be
done. 29 "Now, Lord, look on their threats, and
grant to Your servants that with all boldness they
may speak Your word, 30 "by stretching out Your
hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be
done through the name of Your holy Servant
Jesus." 31 And when they had prayed, the place
where they were assembled together was
shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy
Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with
boldness.
James 5:13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray.
Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. 14 Is anyone
among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church,
and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the
name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the
sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has
committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your
trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that
you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a
righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man with a
nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not
rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six
months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave
rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
1. Prayer can give us peace
Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in
everything by prayer and supplication, with
thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to
God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all
understanding, will guard your hearts and minds
through Christ Jesus.
2. Prayers can make a difference in a nation
1 Timothy 2:1 Therefore I exhort first of all that
supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving
of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all
who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet
and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.
3. Prayer can help give us strength
Matthew 26:41 "Watch and pray, lest you enter
into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but
the flesh is weak."
4. Prayer can cause doors of opportunity to be
opened
Colossians 4:2 Continue earnestly in prayer, being
vigilant in it with thanksgiving; 3 meanwhile
praying also for us, that God would open to us a
door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ,
for which I am also in chains, 4 that I may make
it manifest, as I ought to speak.
5. Prayers can help us and others find the
courage to proclaim the good news
Ephesians 6:18 praying always with all prayer
and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to
this end with all perseverance and supplication
for all the saints -- 19 and for me, that utterance
may be given to me, that I may open my mouth
boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel,
20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that
in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
6. Prayer allows us to ask for the forgiveness of
our sins
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful
and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us
from all unrighteousness.
The Christian life is a life of spiritual growth and
development.
Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of
your mind, that you may prove what is that good
and acceptable and perfect will of God.
1 Peter 2:1 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all
deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as
newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word,
that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have
tasted that the Lord is gracious.
2 Peter 3:18 but grow in the grace and
knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 5: 12 For though by this time you ought
to be teachers, you need someone to teach you
again the first principles of the oracles of God;
and you have come to need milk and not solid
food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk
is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is
a babe. 14 But solid food belongs to those who
are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use
have their senses exercised to discern both good
and evil.
Ephesians 6:13 Therefore take up the whole
armor of God, that you may be able to withstand
in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with
truth, having put on the breastplate of
righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with
the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above
all, taking the shield of faith with which you will
be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked
one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
Psalm 119: 9 How can a young man cleanse his way?
By taking heed according to Your word. 10 With my
whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not
wander from Your commandments! 11 Your word I
have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against
You! 12 Blessed are You, O LORD! Teach me Your
statutes! 13 With my lips I have declared All the
judgments of Your mouth. 14 I have rejoiced in the
way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches. 15
I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate
Your ways. 16 I will delight myself in Your statutes; I
will not forget Your word. 17 Deal bountifully with
Your servant, That I may live and keep Your word. 18
Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from
Your law.
Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in
the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path
of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2
But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in
His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be
like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That
brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also
shall not wither; And whatever he does shall
prosper.
James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask
of God, who gives to all liberally and without
reproach, and it will be given to him.
James 1:21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and
overflow of wickedness, and receive with
meekness the implanted word, which is able to
save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and
not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if
anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he
is like a man observing his natural face in a
mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away,
and immediately forgets what kind of man he
was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of
liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful
hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be
blessed in what he does.
2 Peter 1:5 But also for this very reason, giving all
diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6
to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to
perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly
kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these
things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren
nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to
blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from
his old sins. 10 Therefore, brethren, be even more
diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do
these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an
entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the
everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
