MICE Radiation Shielding Yury Ivanyushenkov Engineering Department, RAL MICE Phone Conference, 28 January 2004 1 MICE Radiation Shielding Option: All the hall is a MICE restricted area Exit * Main gate * cold box door 3.8 m stay clear zone cellar door services zone 5.6 m High level exit * * All Concrete radiation shielding MICE Phone Conference, 28 January 2004 doors are normally blocked when MICE is running Steel magnetic shielding Scale: 1m 2 MICE Radiation Shielding:Status 1. Option “no block house” was considered and agreed at the last Collaboration meeting. 2. This concept was approved by Paul Wright, the ISIS Radiation Safety Officer, at the meeting on the 12th of January at RAL. Paul Wright’s comments: - doors: ideally should be lead sliding doors; - local shielding for doors to protect against radiation scattered by walls and the ceiling; - beam-line shielding requires careful consideration. More detailed recommendations on both the MICE hall shielding and the beam-line shielding have been promised. 3. New MICE layout is under way. The latest version by Tony Jones is shown on the next slide. See next slide for an example of preliminary cryogenic system layout.
