Signing On General Lesson 2

Objectives

Following completion of this lesson you will be able to: . Open the Meditech application . Sign on to Meditech . State the importance of exiting the Meditech system when your work is complete . Exit from any Meditech applications using the red X button

Meditech can be opened by double-clicking on the Meditech icon found on the computer desktop.

This is the sign-on screen. It is where you will identify yourself to the Meditech system using your unique User ID and password.

Your User ID is typically the letter E followed by your employee number.

Your password will consist of at least 6 characters and can be a combination of letters and numbers. Your first password will be assigned to you, then you will change it to one of your choosing.

Once you have completed the sign on process you will be delivered to the Main Desktop. This is your main menu from which you will select the different Meditech routines you will use in your job.

While you must understand how to sign on to Meditech to use the system, it is just as important that you learn how to sign off. Signing off when you leave the computer protects both you and your patients and complies with HIPPA confidentiality regulations.

It you leave Meditech signed on to your ID, anyone can place orders, write notes, and document as if they were you! It’s like leaving you keys in the ignition switch of your car. Protect you User ID and password just as you do your professional license. Make sure that any work that is done under your ID is done by you.

When you sign off, you leave the Meditech System available to the next user who will enter his or her own User ID and Password before beginning work. Leaving the Meditech system signed on with patient data showing on the screen is like leaving a chart open for passersby to read. Respect your patients’ confidentiality and always close the applications and sign off when you are finished working in Meditech.

Now that you know how important it is to sign off, how do you do it? To leave any of the Meditech applications, click on the red “X” on the toolbar until the sign on screen is reached. You will know you have safely exited the system when you see the sign on screen empty for the next user to enter an ID and Password.

Always make sure you reach this sign on screen before leaving the computer.
