Cause and Effect
Causes and effects are related. An
effect is what happens. A cause is why it
happens.
Sometimes clue words, such as because
and so, signal causes and effects. Other
times you must figure out the causes and
effects for yourself.
Sometimes a cause has more than one
effect.
Illustrator’s Craft
An illustrator is a person who creates
the art for an article or book. The
illustrator makes choices about how to
draw or paint for the text.
Art can help you understand the setting,
characters, mood, and plot of a story.
Sometimes the art shows additional
details or information that are not in the
text.
Context Clues
When a word you don’t seem to make
sense in a sentence, it may be a
multiple-meaning word. Look for
context clues and predict other
possible meanings.
Write two meanings for each multiple
choice word and circle the meaning
used in the story.
