A CHRISTIAN CAROL
Luke 16:19 " There was a certain rich man who
was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared
sumptuously every day. 20 "But there was a
certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who
was laid at his gate, 21 "desiring to be fed with
the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table.
Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22
"So it was that the beggar died, and was carried
by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man
also died and was buried. 23 "And being in
torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw
Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 "Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham,
have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may
dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my
tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.' 25
"But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your
lifetime you received your good things, and
likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is
comforted and you are tormented. 26 'And
besides all this, between us and you there is a
great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass
from here to you cannot, nor can those from there
pass to us.'
27 "Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father,
that you would send him to my father's house, 28
'for I have five brothers, that he may testify to
them, lest they also come to this place of
torment.' 29 "Abraham said to him, 'They have
Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.' 30
"And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one
goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' 31
"But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses
and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded
though one rise from the dead.' "
Once we die the only thing that remains is the
judgment (Heb. 9:27).
We will be judged by the Word of God (Jn.
12:48).
2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before
the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may
receive the things done in the body, according to
what he has done, whether good or bad.
Matthew 23:14 "Woe to you, scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows'
houses, and for a pretense make long prayers.
Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
Hebrews 10:29 Of how much worse punishment,
do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who
has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted
the blood of the covenant by which he was
sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit
of grace?
2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to
whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do
you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in
you? -- unless indeed you are disqualified.
Acts 22:3 "I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of
Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of
Gamaliel, taught according to the strictness of
our fathers' law, and was zealous toward God as
you all are today. 4 "I persecuted this Way to the
death, binding and delivering into prisons both
men and women, 5 "as also the high priest bears
me witness, and all the council of the elders, from
whom I also received letters to the brethren, and
went to Damascus to bring in chains even those
who were there to Jerusalem to be punished.
Philippians 3:3 … have no confidence in the flesh,
4 though I also might have confidence in the
flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have
confidence in the flesh, I more so: 5 circumcised
the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe
of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews;
concerning the law, a Pharisee; 6 concerning
zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the
righteousness which is in the law, blameless. 7
But what things were gain to me, these I have
counted loss for Christ.
8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the
excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my
Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all
things, and count them as rubbish, that I may
gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having my
own righteousness, which is from the law, but
that which is through faith in Christ, the
righteousness which is from God by faith; 10 that
I may know Him and the power of His
resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings,
being conformed to His death, 11 if, by any
means, I may attain to the resurrection from the
dead.
1 Timothy 6:17 Command those who are rich in
this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in
uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives
us richly all things to enjoy. 18 Let them do good,
that they be rich in good works, ready to give,
willing to share, 19 storing up for themselves a
good foundation for the time to come, that they
may lay hold on eternal life.
Matthew 6:19 " Do not lay up for yourselves
treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy
and where thieves break in and steal; 20 "but lay
up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where
neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves
do not break in and steal. 21 "For where your
treasure is, there your heart will be also.
1 Timothy 6:7 For we brought nothing into this
world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and clothing, with these we
shall be content. 9 But those who desire to be
rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into
many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men
in destruction and perdition.
Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I do not count myself
to have apprehended; but one thing I do,
forgetting those things which are behind and
reaching forward to those things which are
ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of
the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature,
have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise,
God will reveal even this to you. 16 Nevertheless, to the
degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the
same rule, let us be of the same mind. 17 Brethren, join
in following my example, and note those who so walk, as
you have us for a pattern. 18 For many walk, of whom I
have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that
they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 whose end
is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is
in their shame -- who set their mind on earthly things. 20
For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also
eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who
will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to
His glorious body, according to the working by which He
is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
2 Corinthians 6:2 Behold, now is the accepted
time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
