Inventory All Chemicals Should include: Chemical name and formula Date received (or put on inventory) Approximate amount of reagent present Storage location Any significant hazards

Storage area neat and orderly * Keep inventory updated * Ordering chemicals: Should be centralized Assess needs, safety issues / hazards Maintain up to date MSDS file

Properties of Storage Area

* Secured and locked when not in use (self-locking) * Two exits * Secured shelving Wood preferred ( or plastic, metal) with lip on edge is recommended Not above eye-level Only store bottles 2-3 deep * Proper emergency equipment

Where to Store Chemicals??

* Not under hood unless properly designed and locked * Not in the hood * Not under the sink Need a Designated Storage Area Separate form the Student Lab !!

Organize Chemicals By Compatible Groups !!

* In separate rooms or different shelf locations within the same room.
