Researching a Topic
on Samlib.com :
The Medical Library Gateway
Our Research Topic/Scenario
I was told by a colleague that there are portable
units and/or methods for clinically assessing a
patient for Obstructive Sleep Apnea in their
home outside the sleep lab setting. I know a
little bit about Sleep Apnea but I need to have a
stronger foundation. Then I want to see what
the literature reports on these portable units.
Where else can I look for information geared to
the clinician while seeing what information there
is for the layperson?
Taking the First Steps


Once you have chosen a topic to research,
where would you begin?
Go to The Medical Library Gateway:


Create a knowledge-base from where you can
search the specific aspects or details of the topic
you are interested in researching
Through the resources you will find, a topic can
be brought full circle from question to answer in
as in-depth as you would like or need to go

You now have a small knowledge-base on Obstructive
Sleep Apnea. Now we want to hone in on articles about
the portable units/clinical assessment in the ambulatory
setting that a colleague mentioned to me.
In this instance we will use only a few keywords or
concepts to locate current articles.
(In-depth searching and use of MeSH is not addressed here)


Look for the Databases link on the right hand side of The
Medical Library Gateway. Click on it.
Choose the PubMed link you will find there.
This PubMed link provides information on our print holdings and/or
immediate online access to the full text of an article (apparent only
