A Brief History
1910
Peddlers first
licensed in NYC
in the 1890s.
1904
6,000 licenses, 5,000 arrests
for unlicensed vending.
New Age mag describes ‘continuous lines of
pushcarts in lower Manhattan which impede
pedestrian movement, interfere with
deliveries to local stores, and block the free
passage of police and fire wagons’.
1968
DCA is first
formed.
1963
The law established that a
vendor could not sell within 100
feet of a store or 250 feet if
merchant objected.
