Don’t Miss Out
All you need is an internet connection &
an e-mail address.
Follow simple prompts, create a
password & you are now a Facebook
user.
Here is what mine looks
like:
You don’t need to know how to write
computer language or be a web page
designer.
Facebook does everything for you!
There are 6 family
genealogy groups I belong
to.
4 of the groups, I created myself.
2 of the groups were created by new
found relatives some years ago.
First Things First
Nothing is worse than duplicate work.
Check Facebook to see if a group already for your
family name.
Facebook has a ‘search’ area at the top of your page.
Add ‘genealogy’, ‘ancestry’, or ‘family’ to cut down on
results with other people with that last name.
Creating a New Group
It only takes a few clicks
Go to: Groups
Click: Create Group
Create A New Group
You should put some thought in to this before you
start.
Come up with a name.
If you don’t have other ‘Facebook’ relatives to add to
your new group, add yourself.
Keep your group OPEN or CLOSED, but not
SECRET.
Now ‘set-it-up’ (super easy)
After you name it;
Tell something about it, that will attract the right
members.
Add a photo or two.
Set up Notifications so you receive an e-mail every
time someone wants to join.
Wait for the fun to start!
Waits, Morgan, Truitt,
Richards Ancestry
Next is an example of the ‘homepage’ for this group.
There are 2 locations to confirm what ‘group’ you are
in.
I posted a picture that I needed help to identify.
You can also see if anyone is requesting to join your
group.
Navigate Your New Group
To the right of your groups name, you will find:

I have connected with too many relatives to even
count, that I would have never located before.
I have received hundreds of pictures.
I have filled in many ‘blanks’ in the tree.
Shared stories.
Made friends.
Two of the groups even set up ‘reunions’ to attend.
