Follow simple prompts, create a password & you are now a Facebook user. Here is what mine looks like: You don’t need to know how to write computer language or be a web page designer. Facebook does everything for you! There are 6 family genealogy groups I belong to. 4 of the groups, I created myself. 2 of the groups were created by new found relatives some years ago. First Things First Nothing is worse than duplicate work. Check Facebook to see if a group already for your family name. Facebook has a ‘search’ area at the top of your page. Add ‘genealogy’, ‘ancestry’, or ‘family’ to cut down on results with other people with that last name. Creating a New Group It only takes a few clicks Go to: Groups Click: Create Group Create A New Group You should put some thought in to this before you start. Come up with a name. If you don’t have other ‘Facebook’ relatives to add to your new group, add yourself. Keep your group OPEN or CLOSED, but not SECRET. Now ‘set-it-up’ (super easy) After you name it; Tell something about it, that will attract the right members. Add a photo or two. Set up Notifications so you receive an e-mail every time someone wants to join. Wait for the fun to start! Waits, Morgan, Truitt, Richards Ancestry Next is an example of the ‘homepage’ for this group. There are 2 locations to confirm what ‘group’ you are in. I posted a picture that I needed help to identify. You can also see if anyone is requesting to join your group. Navigate Your New Group To the right of your groups name, you will find: About Events Photos Files Notifications Photos: I set up different ‘albums’ to post to: Clippings, Etc. Documents Headstones/Gravesites Pictures Get Help, Get Answers, Have Fun!.......for free I have connected with too many relatives to even count, that I would have never located before. I have received hundreds of pictures. I have filled in many ‘blanks’ in the tree. Shared stories. Made friends. Two of the groups even set up ‘reunions’ to attend. The End
