Denominator

The bottom number of a fraction

Numerator

The top number of a fraction

Endpoints

Points at which segments end

Line

A straight collection of points extending in opposite directions without end

Metric System

An international system of measurement based on multiples of ten

Ray

A part of a line that begins at a point and continues without end in one direction

Segment

A part of a line with two distinct endpoints

U.S. Customary System A system of measurement used almost exclusively in the United States

Perimeter

The distance around a closed, flat shape

Counting Numbers The numbers used to count; the members of the set (1,2,3,4,5…)

Negative Numbers Numbers less than zero

Number Line

A line for representing and graphing numbers. Each point on the line corresponds to a number

Whole Numbers The members of the set (0,1,2,3,4…)

Celsius scale

A scale used on some thermometers to measure temperature

Even Numbers

Numbers that can be divided by 2 without a remainder; members of the set (-4,-2,0,2,4)

Fahrenheit Scale A scale used on some thermometers to measure temperature

Odd Numbers Numbers that have a remainder of 1 when divided by 2; members of the set (-3,-1,1,3)

Scale

A display of numbers with an indicator to show the value of a certain measure

Sequence

A list of numbers arranged according to a certain rule

Closed-Option Survey A survey in which the possible responses are limited

Histogram

A method of displaying a range of data. A histogram is a special type of bar graph that displays data in intervals of equal size with no space between them.

Open-Option Survey A survey that does not limit the possible responses
