THANKSGIVING
2 Timothy 3:1 But know this, that in the last days
perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers
of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud,
blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful,
unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers,
without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4
traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure
rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of
godliness but denying its power. And from such
people turn away!
Luke 17:12 Then as He entered a certain village, there
met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off.
13 And they lifted up their voices and said, "Jesus,
Master, have mercy on us!" 14 So when He saw them,
He said to them, "Go, show yourselves to the priests."
And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.
15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed,
returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 and
fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And
he was a Samaritan. 17 So Jesus answered and said,
"Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?
18 "Were there not any found who returned to give
glory to God except this foreigner?" 19 And He said to
him, "Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you
well."
1 Thessalonians 5:17 pray without ceasing, 18 in
everything give thanks; for this is the will of God
in Christ Jesus for you.
We make up about 7% – 10% of the world.
We are truly blessed!
1 Timothy 6:6 Now godliness with contentment is
great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this
world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and clothing, with these we
shall be content.
“We saw tears of joy as people grasped the first
New Testament they had ever owned. As we sat
at dinner, one brother in Russia held his New
Testament and said, “This is far more precious
than the very bread on our table.” Young people
treasure their copy as they would life itself, and
well they should because herein is the word of
life.” Gene Dulin
“I who am blind can give one hint to those who
see: Use your eyes as if tomorrow you would be
stricken blind. And the same method can be
applied to the other senses.”
“Hear the music of voices, the song of a bird, the
mighty strains of an orchestra, as if you would be
suddenly stricken deaf tomorrow. Touch each
object you want to touch as if tomorrow you
tactile sense would fail. Smell the perfume of
flowers, taste with relish each morsel as if
tomorrow you could never smell or taste again.”
When Upon Life’s Billow
1.
When upon life's billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by
one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
2.
Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to
bear?
Count your many blessings, ev'ry doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by.
3.
So, amid the conflict, whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey's end.
REFRAIN
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your blessings, see what God hath done;
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your many blessings, see what God hath
done.
“In America you have freedom of religion but not
freedom to stay away from church, but freedom
to attend and worship God. In Africa, we often
walk 25 miles to find a preacher to speak to us.
Then we do not sit in a fine building, but stand in
the sun, for an hour or two to hear the word of
God. I cannot understand you in America, having
to beg people to come and worship”
Paul used the word:
• Thanksgiving - 9 times
• Thanks - 24 times
• Thank God or Christ - 11 times
• Thankful - 2 times
46 times in all.
1 Corinthians 1:3 Grace to you and peace from
God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4 I
thank my God always concerning you for the
grace of God which was given to you by Christ
Jesus,
Acts 9:16 "For I will show him how many things
he must suffer for My name's sake."
2 Corinthians 11:23 Are they ministers of Christ? -- I
speak as a fool -- I am more: in labors more abundant, in
stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in
deaths often. 24 From the Jews five times I received forty
stripes minus one. 25 Three times I was beaten with
rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked;
a night and a day I have been in the deep; 26 in journeys
often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of
my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in
the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in
perils among false brethren; 27 in weariness and toil, in
sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings
often, in cold and nakedness -- 28 besides the other
things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for
all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I am not weak?
Who is made to stumble, and I do not burn with
indignation? 30 If I must boast, I will boast in the things
which concern my infirmity.
Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I
will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be known to
all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be anxious for
nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication,
with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known
to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all
understanding, will guard your hearts and minds
through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatever
things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever
things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever
things are lovely, whatever things are of good report,
if there is any virtue and if there is anything
praiseworthy -- meditate on these things.
9 The things which you learned and received and
heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace
will be with you. 10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly
that now at last your care for me has flourished
again; though you surely did care, but you lacked
opportunity. 11 Not that I speak in regard to need,
for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be
content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know
how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have
learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to
abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things
through Christ who strengthens me.
Ephesians 1:15 For this reason, because I have
heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your
love toward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to
give thanks for you, remembering you in my
prayers,
Philippians 1:3 I thank my God in all my
remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of
mine for you all making my prayer with joy, 5
because of your partnership in the gospel from
the first day until now.
2 Thessalonians 1:3 We ought always to give
thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right,
because your faith is growing abundantly, and
the love of every one of you for one another is
increasing. 4 Therefore we ourselves boast about
you in the churches of God for your steadfastness
and faith in all your persecutions and in the
afflictions that you are enduring.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in
you richly, teaching and admonishing one another
in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and
spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts
to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or
deed, do everything in the name of the Lord
Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through
him.
Psalm 100:1 A Psalm of Thanksgiving. Make a
joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! 2 Serve
the LORD with gladness; Come before His
presence with singing. 3 Know that the LORD, He
is God; It is He who has made us, and not we
ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His
pasture. 4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to
Him, and bless His name. 5 For the LORD is good;
His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to
all generations.
