UPDATE of RFCC MOUDLE Derun Li, Steve Gourlay Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory MICE MICO Meeting December 21, 2011 CC Magnets • 1st CC magnet – Cold mass at LBNL • • • • • First physical (CMM) and electrical measurements complete; Design of the cooling circuit finalized for Fermilab testing; Vacuum potting prep underway; Thermal stress analysis during cool-down complete; PID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram) in progress. – Quench protection • Contract signed with MIT; • Preliminary analysis of QP indicated 4 sub-divisions may be adequate (original design has 8); • Design of the stabilization of HTS and SC current and QP leads underway at MIT. Cold Mass at LBNL CMM measurements complete LH pipe bending complete Ready for machining pipe groove and cold mass support brackets 1st Electrical measurement complete: measured resistance between in-out and QP leads consistent with the design Update of LH Cooling Pipe Design for the 1st Cold Mass Testing in Progress CC Magnets • 1st CC magnet – Testing preparation at Fermilab • FSU cryostat; • Testing location identified; • … – SC wires (261 km) ready to be ordered – Review of the cryostat drawings nearly complete; – Modification/updating of the drawings in progress at LBNL • Cryostat fabrication readiness review after next MICE Collaboration meeting (Feb. 8-11, 2012) • Winding procedure review in China (Mar. - Apr. 2012) • Winding of the 2nd coil could start June 2012 or earlier if we decide to mix two different SC wires MICE RF Cavities • Electro-polishing (EP) set up at LBNL ready; • Waiting for ES&H approval; • Expect to start early 2012. Design MICE RF Cavities • RF coupler design updated; • Additional welding of cavity support struts complete; • Single cavity vessel fabrication complete and expect to arrive Fermilab this month; • Fabrication of six tuner arms in progress at Fermilab; • Discussions on potential assistance from LBNL on MICE LLRF control initiated.
