1. Therefore, since we have been declared righteous
by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord
Jesus Christ.
2. Also through Him, we have obtained access by faith
into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in
the hope of the glory of God.
3. And not only that, but we also rejoice in our
afflictions, because we know that affliction
produces endurance,
4. endurance produces proven character, and proven
character produces hope.
5. This hope does not disappoint, because God’s love
has been poured out in our hearts through the
Holy Spirit who was given to us.

A Hope That Makes
Us Rejoice

Glory
• When God unveils Himself, revealing His glorious Person.
• When God brings history to a fitting conclusion and
makes the universe see His ruling presence.
• When God reverses the damage of sin in the life of
Christians and they are seen in their new glory.
• Colossians 3:4 “When the Messiah, who is your life, is

glory.”

A Hope That Makes
Us Rejoice

We Know Things That
Enable Us to Rejoice in
Afflictions
• Vs. 3 “And not only that, but we also rejoice in
our afflictions, because we know…”
IV.
Vs. 3-4 “…because we know that…”
1. Affliction produces endurance
–
You can’t get in shape without exercise
2. Endurance produces proven character
–
Proven character is the result of sticking with it when you
would have been easy to quit
3. Proven character produces hope
–
Affliction pushes those of good character toward their
heavenly hope; it pushes those who don’t have good
character toward either cynicism or to substitutes for God.
