John 10:1
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who
does not enter by the door into the fold
of the sheep, but climbs up some other
way, he is a thief and a robber.”
John 10:2-3
“But he who enters by the door is
a shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the
doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear
his voice, and he calls his own sheep
by name and leads them out.”
John 10:4-6
“When he puts forth all his own,
he goes ahead of them, and the sheep
follow him because they know his
voice. 5 A stranger they simply will not
follow, but will flee from him, because
they do not know the voice of
strangers. 6 This figure of speech Jesus
spoke to them, but they did not
understand what those things were
which He had been saying to them.”
John 10:7-8
So Jesus said to them again,
“Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door
of the sheep. 8 All who came before Me
are thieves and robbers, but the sheep
did not hear them.”
John 10:9
“I am the door; if anyone enters
through Me, he will be saved, and will
go in and out and find pasture.”
John 10:10
“The thief comes only to steal and
kill and destroy; I came that they may
have life, and have it abundantly.”

I am the good shepherd; the good
shepherd lays down His life for the
sheep.

John 10:12-13
“He who is a hired hand, and not a
shepherd, who is not the owner of the
sheep, sees the wolf coming, and
leaves the sheep and flees, and the
wolf snatches them and scatters them.
13 He flees because he is a hired hand
and is not concerned about the sheep.”
John 10:14-15
“I am the good shepherd, and I
know My own and My own know Me,
15 even as the Father knows Me and I
know the Father; and I lay down My life
for the sheep.”
John 10:16
“I have other sheep, which are not
of this fold; I must bring them also, and
they will hear My voice; and they will
become one flock with one shepherd.”
John 10:17-18
“For this reason the Father loves
Me, because I lay down My life so that I
may take it again. 18 No one has taken
it away from Me, but I lay it down on My
own initiative. I have authority to lay it
down, and I have authority to take it up
again. This commandment I received
from My Father.”
John 10:22-23
At that time the Feast of the
Dedication took place at Jerusalem; 23 it
was winter, and Jesus was walking in
the temple in the portico of Solomon.
John 10:24
The Jews then gathered around
Him, and were saying to Him, “How
long will You keep us in suspense? If
You are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
John 10:25-26
Jesus answered them, “I told you,
and you do not believe; the works that I
do in My Father's name, these testify of
Me. 26 But you do not believe because
you are not of My sheep.”
John 10:27-30
“My sheep hear My voice, and I
know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I
give eternal life to them, and they will
never perish; and no one will snatch
them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who
has given them to Me, is greater than
all; and no one is able to snatch them
out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the
Father are one.”
John 10:31-33
The Jews picked up stones again
to stone Him. 32 Jesus answered them,
“I showed you many good works from
the Father; for which of them are you
stoning Me?” 33 The Jews answered
Him, “For a good work we do not stone
You, but for blasphemy; and because
You, being a man, make Yourself out to
be God.”
John 10:34-36
Jesus answered them, “Has it not
been written in your Law, ‘I said you are
gods’? 35 If he called them gods, to
whom the word of God came (and the
Scripture cannot be broken), 36 do you
say of Him, whom the Father sanctified
and sent into the world, ‘You are
blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the
Son of God’?”
I said, “You are gods,
And all of you are sons of the Most High.
7 Nevertheless you will die like men
And fall like any one of the princes.”
8 Arise, O God, judge the earth!
For it is You who possesses all the
nations. (Psalm 82:6-8).
John 10:37-39
“If I do not do the works of My
Father, do not believe Me; 38 but if I do
them, though you do not believe Me,
believe the works, so that you may
know and understand that the Father is
in Me, and I in the Father.”
39 Therefore they were seeking again to
seize Him, and He eluded their grasp.
And He went away
again beyond the
Jordan to the
place where John
was first baptizing,
and He was
staying there.
(John 10:40).
Many came to Him
and were saying,
“While John
performed no sign, yet
everything John said
about this man was
true.” 42 Many
believed in Him there.
(John 10:41-42).
John 11:1
Now a certain man was sick,
Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary
and her sister Martha.
John 11:2
It was the Mary who anointed the
Lord with ointment, and wiped His feet
with her hair, whose brother Lazarus
was sick.
John 11:3-4
So the sisters sent word to Him,
saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You
love is sick.” 4 But when Jesus heard
this, He said, “This sickness is not to
end in death, but for the glory of God,
so that the Son of God may be glorified
by it.”
John 11:5-7
Now Jesus loved Martha and her
sister and Lazarus. 6 So when He
heard that he was sick, He then stayed
two days longer in the place where He
was. 7 Then after this He said to the
disciples, “Let us go to Judea again.”
John 11:8-10
The disciples said to Him, “Rabbi,
the Jews were just now seeking to
stone You, and are You going there
again?” 9 Jesus answered, “Are there
not twelve hours in the day? If anyone
walks in the day, he does not stumble,
because he sees the light of this world.
10 But if anyone walks in the night, he
stumbles, because the light is not in
him.”
John 11:11
This He said, and after that He
said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has
fallen asleep; but I go, so that I may
awaken him out of sleep.”
John 11:12-15
The disciples then said to Him,
“Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will
recover.” 13 Now Jesus had spoken of
his death, but they thought that He was
speaking of literal sleep. 14 So Jesus
then said to them plainly, “Lazarus is
dead, 15 and I am glad for your sakes
that I was not there, so that you may
believe; but let us go to him.”
John 11:16
Therefore Thomas, who is called
Didymus, said to his fellow disciples,
“Let us also go, so that we may die with
Him.”

So when Jesus came, He found
that he had already been in the tomb
four days.
Now Bethany was near Jerusalem,
about two miles off; 19 and many of
the Jews had come to Martha and
Mary, to console them concerning
their brother. (John 11:18-19).
John 11:20
Martha therefore, when she heard
that Jesus was coming, went to meet
Him, but Mary stayed at the house.
John 11:21-24
Martha then said to Jesus, “Lord,
if You had been here, my brother would
not have died. 22 Even now I know that
whatever You ask of God, God will give
You.”
23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will
rise again.”
24 Martha said to Him, “I know that he
will rise again in the resurrection on the
last day.”
John 11:25-26
Jesus said to her, “I am the
resurrection and the life; he who
believes in Me will live even if he dies,
26 and everyone who lives and believes
in Me will never die. Do you believe
this?”

John 11:27
She said to Him, “Yes, Lord; I
have believed that You are the Christ,
the Son of God, even He who comes
into the world.”
John 11:28-29
When she had said this, she went
away and called Mary her sister, saying
secretly, “The Teacher is here and is
calling for you.” 29 And when she heard
it, she got up quickly and was coming
to Him.
John 11:30-31
Now Jesus had not yet come into
the village, but was still in the place
where Martha met Him. 31 Then the
Jews who were with her in the house,
and consoling her, when they saw that
Mary got up quickly and went out, they
followed her, supposing that she was
going to the tomb to weep there.
John 11:32
Therefore, when Mary came
where Jesus was, she saw Him, and
fell at His feet, saying to Him, “Lord, if
You had been here, my brother would
not have died.”
What is the difference between
the reactions of Mary versus
Martha?
John 11:33-34
When Jesus therefore saw her
weeping, and the Jews who came with
her also weeping, He was deeply
moved in spirit and was troubled, 34 and
said, “Where have you laid him?” They
said to Him, “Lord, come and see.”
John 11:35-37
Jesus wept. 36 So the Jews were
saying, “See how He loved him!” 37 But
some of them said, “Could not this
man, who opened the eyes of the blind
man, have kept this man also from
dying?”
So Jesus, again being deeply moved within,
came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a
stone was lying against it. (John 11:38).
John 11:39-40
Jesus said, “Remove the stone.”
Martha, the sister of the deceased, said
to Him, “Lord, by this time there will be
a stench, for he has been dead four
days.” 40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not
say to you that if you believe, you will
see the glory of God?”
John 11:41-42
So they removed the stone. Then
Jesus raised His eyes, and said,
“Father, I thank You that You have
heard Me. 42 I knew that You always
hear Me; but because of the people
standing around I said it, so that they
may believe that You sent Me.”
John 11:43-44
When He had said these things,
He cried out with a loud voice,
“Lazarus, come forth.” 44 The man who
had died came forth, bound hand and
foot with wrappings, and his face was
wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus
said to them, “Unbind him, and let him
go.”
John 11:45-46
Therefore many of the Jews who
came to Mary, and saw what He had
done, believed in Him. 46 But some of
them went to the Pharisees and told
them the things which Jesus had done.
John 11:47-48
Therefore the chief priests and the
Pharisees convened a council, and
were saying, “What are we doing? For
this man is performing many signs. 48 If
we let Him go on like this, all men will
believe in Him, and the Romans will
come and take away both our place
and our nation.”
John 11:49-50
But one of them, Caiaphas, who
was high priest that year, said to them,
“You know nothing at all, 50 nor do you
take into account that it is expedient for
you that one man die for the people,
and that the whole nation not perish.”
John 11:51-52
Now he did not say this on his
own initiative, but being high priest that
year, he prophesied that Jesus was
going to die for the nation, 52 and not for
the nation only, but in order that He
might also gather together into one the
children of God who are scattered
abroad.
John 11:53-54
So from that day on they planned
together to kill Him. 54 Therefore Jesus
no longer continued to walk publicly
among the Jews, but went away from
there to the country near the
wilderness, into a city called Ephraim;
and there He stayed with the disciples.
