• Give me topics to teach on!!!
I got called out
• 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage
one another and build each other up, just as
in fact you are doing.
• BUT…
• Q: What about anger?
John 2:14-16
• In the temple courts he found men selling cattle,
sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables
exchanging money.
• So he (Jesus) made a whip out of cords, and
drove all from the temple area, both sheep and
cattle; he scattered the coins of the money
changers and overturned their tables.
• To those who sold doves he said, "Get these out
of here! How dare you turn my Father's house
into a market!”
A search for love…
• Q: What is love? Do not give me a “textbook
definition.”
• 505 verses have the word “love”
A search for love…
• First:
• Gen 20:13 And when God had me wander
from my father's household, I said to her, 'This
is how you can show your love to me:
Everywhere we go, say of me, "He is my
brother."'"
A search for love…
• Second:
• Gen 22:2 Then God said, "Take your son, your
only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the
region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a
burnt offering on one of the mountains I will
tell you about.“
• Q: Why did Abraham comply?
A search for love…
• Third: Genesis 29:18-20
• Jacob was in love with Rachel and said, "I'll
work for you seven years in return for your
younger daughter Rachel." Laban said, "It's
better that I give her to you than to some
other man. Stay here with me." So Jacob
served seven years to get Rachel, but they
seemed like only a few days to him because of
his love for her.
A search for love…
• But then…
• Genesis 29:32 - Leah became pregnant and
gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben,
for she said, "It is because the LORD has seen
my misery. Surely my husband will love me
now."
My conclusion…
• Maybe I just don’t understand love…
• Time for a new lesson!
MATH!!!
Just kidding!
LET’S LOOK!!!
• In the BIBLE!!!
Proverbs 3:3
• Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind
them around your neck, write them on the
tablet of your heart.
Song of Solomon 8:6-7
• Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal
on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its
jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like
blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters
cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it
away. If one were to give all the wealth of his
house for love, it would be utterly scorned.
So what???
• Q: Who do you love???
• Q: How do Christians love differently than
others?
Matthew 5:43-47 PART 1
• "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your
neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you:
Love your enemies and pray for those who
persecute you, that you may be sons of your
Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on
the evil and the good, and sends rain on the
righteous and the unrighteous.
Matthew 5:43-47 PART 2
• If you love those who love you, what reward
will you get? Are not even the tax collectors
doing that? And if you greet only your
brothers, what are you doing more than
others? Do not even pagans do that?
John 21: 15-17 PART 1
• Remember that Peter denied Jesus thrice!
• When they had finished eating, Jesus said to
Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you love
me more than these?“
• "Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love
you."
• Jesus said, "Feed my lambs."
• Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you
love me?"
John 21: 15-17 PART 2
• He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love
you."
• Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep."
• The third time he said to him, "Simon son of
John, do you love me?"
• Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third
time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know
all things; you know that I love you."
• Jesus said, "Feed my sheep."
1 Corinthians 13
• (1) If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels,
but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or
a clanging cymbal.
• (2) If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom
all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a
faith that can move mountains, but have not love,
I am nothing.
• (3) If I give all I possess to the poor and
surrender my body to the flames, but have not
love, I gain nothing.
1 Corinthians 13
• (4) Love is patient, love is kind. It does not
envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
• (5) It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not
easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
• (6) Love does not delight in evil but rejoices
with the truth.
• (7) It always protects, always trusts, always
hopes, always perseveres.
• (8) Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13
• (11) When I was a child, I talked like a child, I
thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When
I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.
• (12) Now we see but a poor reflection as in a
mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I
know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am
fully known.
• (13) And now these three remain: faith, hope
and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Galatians 5:14
• The entire law is summed up in a single
command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."
2 John 1:6
• And this is love: that we walk in obedience to
his commands. As you have heard from the
beginning, his command is that you walk in
love.
1 Corinthians 16:14
Do everything in love.
