After 112 days of pregnancy, the mother
pig gives birth to the baby pig and his 10
brothers and sisters
In their first days of life, the babies stay with mum, suckling all the time!

Farmers must take great care of the pigs
Mum weighs around a hundred times more than her babies, and
could crush them by mistake
For this reason, a special space is provided to ensure that the
piglets sleep safely
The EU is working to find better solutions for the mum
and her piglets!

Baby pigs like to socialise!
Going for a walk with mum, playing with other pigs,
rolling about in the straw or in the grass…….

Piglets are naughty and sometimes bite each others tails….
but a rich environment keeps the pigs happy
and helps to stop bad behaviour

The longer the piglets stay with mum the stronger they become
But after about 28 days, the
piglets are ready to fend for
themselves
They go to a different part of
the farm with other pigs of the
same age

All good farmers know that the nutrition of a pig is very
important………
especially when it is growing up
So remember….
help pigs to grow up happy
and healthy
