Museum Education Members are:

     Younger. 53% are under 40, compared to NAEA as a whole where only 38% are under 40.

Newer to the field. 47% have less than 10 years of experience, 74% have less than 20 years. (For NAEA as a whole, the proportion is opposite—60% have 20 or more years of experience) Satisfied. 87% would recommend NAEA to a colleague. Room for improvement. Only 29% said you are very satisfied.

2010: NAEA identified Research & Knowledge as a strategic priority 2011-2013 2013 Museum Education Division

conceptualized a strategic

question: what are the benefits of art museums to people? Museum Education Division facilitated discussions with museum educators, divisional focus groups with K–12 educators and administrators, and a Research Initiative planning session during the 2013 Convention Museum Education Division convened a Task Force, conducted research interviews and developed a Request for Proposals for a Planning Year RFP Deadline: April 11, 2014 midnight EST Research Question: What are the benefits to students of engaging with original works of art within the context of object-based art museum programs that take place during the formal school day?

How do I get more involved?

Make yourself known! Express interest! Reach out to your regional representative If Convention is in your hometown, make yourself known and assist the Division and NAEA in planning the Preconference and Convention Don’t be shy! Introduce yourself to your peers and to both established and new colleagues Take the lead in addressing a need you see in the museum education field Submit a proposal and present at the annual Convention NAEA Submit a proposal to present at Convention Participate in Teacher Exchange Volunteer to start a Hangout Nominate colleagues for Awards Attend Conversations with Colleagues

How are Development Committee Members Chosen?

   Regional Representatives, along with the Directors, comprise the Development Committee Development Committee members are nominated and selected by current and upcoming Directors and Development Committee. Selection Criteria:     Actively presented at conferences and/or contributed to the field Have shown leadership and also expressed interest in national leadership Can think both with their specific area of museum education and also broadly about the needs of the field. What makes a good Convention session proposal?

 Make it clear and compelling  Align it with the theme  Make it relevant and timely to your audience  Articulate the outcomes  What will session participants learn?

 Present programs and ideas that show rigor and innovative thinking  For 50-minute sessions: propose to co-present
