SciFi tracker DAQ for KEK
beam test
M. Yoshida (Osaka Univ.)
MICE Video meeting
2005.Jan.13
KEK beam test
• Test for the SciFi tracker with 1T solenoid
magnetic field
• p/p/m test beam line in KEK-PS
• Add 4th station to the prototype tracker
• Newly developed Cryostat with Cryocooler
– 2 VLPC cassettes embeded
• Newly developed readout module with
FIFO memory so that we can readout
VLPC data in MICE situation
LVDS  VME
• MCM puts serialized ADC data
– Need to deserialize before FIFO
• Solution 1:
– Custom-made VME board (Fermilab)
• 4 LVDS data links / board
• (MCM  serialize)  cable  (deserialize  FIFO) 
VMEbus
• Solution 2:
– Existing FIFO board (KEK)
• 32-bit inputs / board
• (MCM  serialize)  cable  deserialize  cable  FIFO
board  VMEbus
• Newly developed LVDS receiver boards

Status
• New Cryostat (KEK)
– Shipped to fermilab in Dec.2004
– Assembly by fermilab cryo experts in a month
• Built test-bench for VME readout modules in fermilab in
Dec. 2004
– Succeeded to control 1553 / SASeq modules from Linux-PC via
Bit3 interface card.
– Testing FIFO boards in Osaka
– Integration test with AFEII in Feb. or Mar. (hopefully with new
cryostat)
• TOF counters for the beam test has been developed
– Measure TOF near solenoid magnet
– High resolution on time resolution (50 ps) is expected with high
speed PMTs from the BESS experiment
– Will be tested in another beam test in KEK in Feb.
