Welcome to Rowland Medical Library
• Hello and welcome to the Rowland Medical
Library (RML), located on the second floor of
the Verner S. Holmes Learning Resource
Center on the campus of the University of
Mississippi Medical Center. We are very
happy that you have chosen us to fulfill your
educational goals. What follows is a tour of
the library and an introduction to our
resources.

Accessing Journal Articles and Book
Chapters in Rowland Medical Library’s
Collection
• Rowland Medical Library will reproduce journal
articles and book chapters for you that RML has
in its collection.
• To obtain access to these journal articles and
book chapters, click on “Student Verification
Form,” read the instructions and complete the
form.
• NOTE: There will be a charge of $3.00 for the
first 20 pages you need, and then 15 cents for
each additional page.

• Under “Forms” on the RML webpage, click on
“More Forms.”
• Click on “Dist. Ed. Student Verification.”
• Complete the form and click “Submit Form.”
Interlibrary Loan Policies
• If Rowland Medical Library does not own a
journal, you may request articles via
interlibrary loan. You may also request books
and other materials that the library does not
own.
• NOTE: There may be a charge for these items!
Creating a TDNET Profile for
Interlibrary Loan
• Click on “E-Journals,” located under
“Resources” on the RML webpage.
• Click on “Set Up TOC Profile.”

-Click on “Create a New Profile” and complete the
form (See below on the right).

-Once you’ve created your profile, log in with your username
and password and click on “Login to Document Delivery.”
-Complete your personal details (i.e. method of payment if
there is a charge and how you would like your items delivered
(i.e. e-mail)).
Using Your Profile to Interlibrary Loan
Items
-If you access a record from a database and you click on “RML,”
look at Step 1 and it says “Sorry, no full text sources have been
identified for this citation,” go to Step 3, “Library Catalog” to see
if we have it in print. If we have it in print, you may request that
we copy it.
-If we do not have the article either on line or in print and you
would like to interlibrary loan the article, click on “Interlibrary
Loan (fast form with one time TDNET profile.)”
-Login in with your TDNet username and password and click
“Submit Order.” You will receive your article as soon as it
becomes available, usually within a few days.

• Click on Interlibrary Loan (fast form with onetime TDNet profile).
• Enter your username and password and click
“Submit Order.”

Off-Campus Access to RML’s Online
Resources
• To access many of RML’s databases from offcampus, you will need a username and password.
• Your username: Your UMMC e-mail username
(ex. jdoe)
• Your password: the same password you use for
your UMMC e-mail, Blackboard, etc.
• Please try your username and password as soon
as you can and if it doesn’t work, call the DIS
helpdesk at 601-984-1145.
RML’s Resources
• To access RML’s resources, go to our webpage
@ www.umc.edu/library.
• To access the most frequently used databases,
go to “Quick Links.”
• To access our complete list of databases, ebooks, and e-journals, go to “Resources” and
click on the proper tab.

• To use the library catalog, go to the top of the
page and type in a title, author, or keyword.

Once you have typed in your search, the results screen will look
like this.

-Click on the title(s) you want in order to determine:
*Where the item is located in the library
*The call number
*If the item is available

E-Books
• To access RML’s E-books, click on “E-Books,” located
under “Resources.”
• Enter a specific title or click on “All” to see the entire
list of available e-books.
• To search by subject, click on the arrow to the right
of “Choose a Subject,” choose a subject and click
search.

• Click on “E-Journals,” located under “Resources.”
• Enter a specific title or click on “All” to see the entire
list of available e-journals.
• To search by subject, click on the arrow to the right
of “Choose a Subject,” choose a subject and click
search.
E-Journals
• For electronic access to a journal, click on the link
underneath the title.
• For dates of full-text availability, look under “Online
Coverage.”
• To access print holdings, click on the check mark
below “Print Holdings” and look at the bottom of
the record for available years.
Accessing RML’s Databases
• For a complete list of all RML databases, click on “EDatabases,” located under “Resources” on our
webpage.
• For the most frequently used databases, look under
“Quick Links.”
Basic Searching in PubMed
*Click on PubMed
(located under “Quick Links.”)
*Enter your search terms into the search box at the top of the
page and click “Search.”
* Limit your searches by date of publication, publication type,
language, etc. by clicking on the appropriate filters on the left
side of the page.

• When you find titles you are interested in,
click on the title to see the abstract (if
available).
• To see if the full-text of the article is available,
click on the RML icon on the right side of the
page.
Searching EBSCO Databases
• To get to the EBSCO databases, go to the RML
homepage at www.umc.edu/library and click
on “CINAHL,” located under “Quick Links.”
• To get to other EBSCO databases, click on
“Choose Databases,” located above the search
box.

-After you have
clicked on “Choose Databases,” you will be
provided with a list of all available EBSCO databases.
-Click on the ones that you want to search and then click
“OK.”
You may click on as many databases as you like.
Limiting Your Searches in EBSCO
Databases
• Below the search box, you will see a section
called “Limit Your Results.”
• Before doing your search, check the
limitations you want to use.
• ALWAYS, ALWAYS limit to “Scholarly (PeerReviewed).”
• You can also limit by date published, language,
type of publication, etc.
How to Determine if RML Owns a
Particular Journal in a Database Record
• Click on the RML icon to the right or left of the article.
• Look at Step 1. If it says “Get online full text,” click on
the link to get the full-text.
• If it says, “Sorry, no full text sources have been
identified for this citation,” go to Step 3.
• Click on Step 3, Library Catalog, to see if we have the
journal in print. (Look at the bottom of the page to see
what years we have in print.)
• If we do not have access to the journal either online or
in print, click on Step 4 (Document Delivery)—Manual
Request Form or Fast Form if you have a TDNet profile- to obtain the article via interlibrary loan.
